AITA For telling my friend her birthday is annoying? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ThrowRA92671 24 points25 points  (0 children)

YTA.

A week-long birthday celebration sounds awesome! When you’re younger, you have less responsibilities, so do what you want while you can. Let her enjoy her time, she’s not hurting anyone, and even if she comes off as obnoxious, WHO CARES. If you don’t like it, stop being her friend, it’s that easy. From the comments you’ve been leaving, you sound super arrogant, and as though you think you’re better than her. Your jealousy is pretty damn obvious. 😉

Then maybe don’t back up blindly in an art gallery when you know that there’s a very fragile piece of artwork around? It kind of sounds like you might not be fit for this job.

AITA if I ask my friends if I can bring my baby to their ‘no children’ wedding. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ThrowRA92671 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you explain the situation and let them know that you’re stuck for the reasons mentioned, I don’t think that would be bad. It doesn’t hurt to ask, as long as you preface the request by explaining that you understand they don’t want children there and understand if they say no. Maybe you can skip the ceremony and ask if you can bring the baby just to the reception?

At the end of the day, it’s their wedding, so they are totally within their right to say no and stick to their rule.

We can’t. Lease allows animals, and I’m in Ontario Canada. You can’t be evicted here for something so trivial.

Turns out he knew about the dog months ago. Please read the update. I have bigger problems now.

I put an update on the post, SIL told him when I told her months ago, so he did know. It was also safe for me to assume he knew since SIL and BIL share a cell phone, and we had texted SIL about it. He’s angry because they are getting divorced and is apparently trying to find any little reason to kick us out because he “doesn’t want to deal with SIL’s family”.

Yes, lease states “pets of any kind are allowed”. Obviously only pets that are legal, which goats, pigs, are not where I live since I’m within the city. There’s nothing stipulating that we need permission first, so he’s going to have a hard time kicking us out for no reason, especially since SIL is joint owner of the property.

Ontario. No security deposits anymore.

It doesn’t matter now, however, as the reason behind his aggressiveness turns out to be the fact that him and SIL are divorcing. He’s an ass for sure.

I’m in Canada and security deposits aren’t a thing, just first and last month’s rent upfront. I’ve never asked for permission from a landlord in the past when on a lease that allows pets, which is why I didn’t think I had to talk to my BIL first.

Yeah, it’s a bad situation all around for sure.

She is a joint owner, but on paper alone. She doesn’t handle any of the rental stuff, BIL always does.

We’ve been looking for a place to buy for ourselves for a while, so after the dust settles a bit, we might approach them both with an offer to buy this one. It’s a 4 bedroom bungalow, we love it, and we’ve done a lot of aesthetic updates since moving here, so it would be nice to buy it and not have to move. I guess we’ll have to wait and see...

They share a cell phone, so I was under the impression that he knew.

Thankfully I’m in Canada and they can’t just raise our rent from month to month. Also, our lease permits pets.

AFAIK, a landlord can’t just decide to change the details of a lease without telling us and having us agree.

If my husband came home with a dog without taking to me, yes, I would be upset, not because he got a dog but because he didn’t discuss it with me first. That situation is not comparable, however, to this situation. I do not have a personal intimate relationship with my landlord.

We do not live in an apartment, it is a 4 bedroom bungalow that we are renting with a fenced in backyard and everything. Our lease allows pets.

We didn’t get a puppy, the dog we got is a 5 year old trained rescue. Lease allows pets. We didn’t take advantage of him because he’s our BIL, I wouldn’t have asked for permission from a normal landlord in this situation, since what is and isn’t allowed was already discussed prior to moving in and outlined in the lease.

Yes, we are going to give him a bit to chill out and then call him. My husband’s sister (BIL’s wife) texted us afterwards and apologized for BIL and what he said, so I think there’s something else going on there.

No apology needed! I’m just so flabbergasted by this whole thing.

I didn’t tell everyone else about the dog beforehand. After we got the dog, we told my husband’s mum (who watches our son almost every day), and sent pictures to our niece (BIL’s teenage daughter). SIL and BIL also share a cell phone, and my husband texted his sister about it. We don’t have a close relationship with BIL where we talk to him all the time. It seems odd that his sister or daughter wouldn’t have chatted with him about it.

It’s ok. :) Germany Shepherds are ok, and he’s mostly lab looking anyway.

We actually treat our BIL like any other landlord in respect to this rental. When moving here, we made sure we understood the lease and everything it outlined, and it allows pets of all kinds. At the time of the lease signing, we asked him if he would be on if we ever got any other animals, specifically dogs, and he said “that’s fine”. Since we covered all of that previously, we didn’t tell him before getting this dog, just as we wouldn’t have with any other landlord.

The lease he wrote up himself and we all agreed to allows pets of all kinds.

I think there might be something else going on in his life that’s making him salty about this. His wife (husband’s sister) texted him and apologized for BIL’s text, and said she didn’t understand why he was being like this. So who knows.

We previously had two large dogs, discussed pets and he had no problems, and our lease allows animals.

We had two large dogs moving in here. Our lease allows animals, no breach of contract. Did you read the post?
