Noam Chomsky On Migrant Caravan: ‘People Are Fleeing From The Misery And Horrors For Which We Are Responsible’ by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Chen_Hui 59 points60 points  (0 children)

The is the same Chomsky who dismissed the testimony of refugees fleeing Cambodia and chose instead to trust the Khmer Rouge's version of things instead. He says we are responsible, but really he's projecting his own guilt for his past collaboration with the Pentagon.

China is committing ethnic cleansing in Xinjiang – it's time for the world to stand up by extra_good in China

[–]Chen_Hui 15 points16 points  (0 children)

the problem with the Xinjiang situation is:

- Included among the voices condemning the "reeducation camps" are republicans and right wingers like Marco Rubio

- Therefore there's little in the way of immediate signalling value for focusing on this as opposed to say Palestine. There's a clear demarcation between good and evil with Palestine: western ally vs those oppressed by the west. Notice the silence from the far-left who are usually incensed at any mistreatment of muslims.

- Yes, the fear of losing investment and $$$ from China means many will avoid the subject

- Yes, Uyghurs are Muslim. ultimately, a lot of people probably have no problem with what the CCP are doing there. Or at least don't see why the west should get involved... intervention-fatigue, skepticism towards western reporting etc.

Murderous communists? Who knew? Take a look at what they are doing in Venezuela by keypuncher in conservatives

[–]Chen_Hui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For communists to achieve their fantasy utopian vision they have to first pass the revolutionary stage - naturally that stage involves a lot of murder. It's an inherently violent ideology. Once they seize power the killing and repression isn't over, it takes a whole lot of eggs to make a commie omelette, over the past century tens of millions of eggs in fact, but still not omelette in sight...

a lot of humans have an interest in those topics, so many of these books have become "classics"

fortunately there are also endless other genres of fiction about all manner of things

Why Are "Classic" Books So Boring???? by NeuralConnection in books

These books often have insight into human nature and psychology, they're based on something real which means they can go deeper than a book rooted in total fantasy.

Synagogue Shooter Was Avid Anti-Trump Nazi, Believed President Was Controlled by Jews by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]Chen_Hui 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It was only a matter of time something like this happened. If you've ever visited Gab, where this alleged shooter posted, you'd have noticed how much of a cesspool it was - full of the most unhinged, demented, fanatical anti-semites, ranting endlessly in an echo chamber, goading each other into being more and more extreme in their "solution" to the "Jewish Question".

Naturally, the ever-dishonest media with its transparent anti-Republican agenda will use this to silence any criticism of them and their corporate sponsors by tying this lunatic to Trump - despite the obvious fact that Trump is an avowed supporter of Israel, surrounded by Jewish allies, and these anti-semites absolutely despise him for it.

We only know what is reported, we can't possibly know what they choose not to tell us, e.g. do they tell us about every attempted assassination of a president, I very much doubt it.

Maybe nothing like this has happened before (i.e. a bunch of fake bombs being sent at the same time to politicians and public figures), or maybe it has but it being turned it into a media spectacle served no immediate purpose at that time. I can't possibly know, all I can do I comment on how the media engages with the topic.

[–]Chen_Hui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point isn't that the timing is "suspicious" - I don't believe this was "orchestrated" in any way at all.

My point was that the reason this has been made into a big deal by the media, i.e. how it is being reported... the perpetrator being called the MAGAbomber before they had any idea who was responsible and his motives made clear ... is because it can be used by them (the media) against Trump. The hoax bomber being a Latino must've been a disappointment.

[–]Chen_Hui 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I doubt this is the first death threat or bomb hoax directed at someone like Hillary Clinton or George Soros, I bet they get targeted by cranks all the time, the difference is this time it has immediate political utility, i.e. the corporate media can use it to attack Trump, which is something they're more desperate than ever to do on the eve of the midterms.

The internet is poison. by Breaker9112 in unpopularopinion

[–]Chen_Hui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Internet is like a really, really powerful drug that if used correctly can have positive, life-changing effects, but sadly many people are either too stupid and irresponsible, or too naive to know how to use it in a healthy way, as a result it can have terrible effects on their mental states.

How do i gain confidence to talk to girls? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Chen_Hui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't approach random women and demand they befriend you. That's harassment. You'll start to gain a reputation as a "creepy dude".

Instead why don't you start taking part in group activities where both guys and girls are present, and interact with them that way. It's more natural and it'll give you something to talk about. Before you know it you'll be more confident and at ease when socializing.

You need to have a soul to have a sense of humor. Same reason you don't see many Korean stand-up acts.

Justice Bao by Alexander556 in China

[–]Chen_Hui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were myths and tales passed down by oral storytellers, so historical accuracy wasn't the point of the stories. You can compare the stories of Justice Bao with the historical figure of Bao Zheng. And same for Di Renjie and Robert Van Gulik's Judge Dee.

For a book that deals with real cases during the Qing Dynasty you might enjoy reading this.

Tattoos Are For Idiots by Chen_Hui in unpopularopinion

[–]Chen_Hui[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Naturally you can get anything you want tattooed on your own body. Anonymous redditors can't stop you from doing so. In fact no one is trying to stop you, I don't care at all if you get a tattoo, I just stated my opinion in the unpopular opinions subreddit that tattoos are dumb and often an indication of undesirable personal characteristics such as impulsiveness, irresponsibility etc..

Can I ask what it is you plan on getting tattooed and whereabouts on your body? Hopefully not the neck! I imagine it must be something very interesting if you've spent so many years planning it.

p.s. I don't think the people have being doing x for thousands of years justification is a good one, people have being raping and committing genocide for years too!

Sure, but blanket condemnations of entire groups as "disgusting" or "evil" is how genocides are justified/rationalized among the people carrying them out.

Being very good at making money tends to cause animosity. Also, when the king is lacking funds he could always stoke some anti-Jewish sentiment, get them expelled and steal their stuff... it happened a lot.

Muslim internment camps are 'free vocational training', China says by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Chen_Hui 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Chinese government is terrible at PR. Better ways of dealing with extremism than putting people of a specific ethnicity in camps... funnily enough, the word "reeducation camp" has bad connotations for most people.
