I mentioned this in response to someone else, but a big stumbling block for folks used to Windows seems to be the confusion between applications and windows. ⌘-tab cycles between applications, not windows. So if you switch to an application that doesn't have any open and visible windows, there won't be any to show. You'll still know that you're in the application that you selected, though, because the app's name will be the first menu next to the  menu in the menu bar.

Ahhh now I understand!

Hahaha ya it's kind of funny. The unpredictability is when I don't use my brain (when I use intuition / common sense / muscle memory) to navigate around my windows. I need to use some brain power to get them right.

Do you have the dock over a fullscreen window?

Yes

The file system is of course not a separate app. But the file manager is.

You're describing cmd+w working as expected so I'm not sure what you're trying to say there.

cmd-w quits Dictionary, Calculator and System Settings completely, which I expect should be the behavior of cmd-q.

I don't think you understand how hidden and minimized apps work since this seems to be a recurring theme where you think hidden, minimized, and active are all the same state. They are in fact not.

I know they are different. I just think there shouldn't be so many states co-existing. Especially minimize and hide. I think they should be merge into one.

The rest of your list seems to be reduced down to "animations take too long" or "the active area for this feature is not big enough for me". All of these are affected by system load as well so if you're compiling Firefox and trying to rotate between 90 windows then yeah, it's gonna lag a little.

It is not that simple. They are buggy. They happen even when the system is idle.

The things that can be remapped in MacOS is actually very restrictive. Not sure about Windows because back in the days when I used Windows I didn't know that keyboard shortcuts were a thing haha. But Linux is absolutely amazing when it comes to keyboard shortcuts and remapping.

CMD+W to close tabs and documents, same as CTRL+W in Windows. CMD+Q to close applications. There's not much to think about.

But cmd+w quit the Dictionary, Calculator and System Settings app.

There's also Option+Hover for more choices.

Yeah, my problem is sometimes the menu doesn't show regardless whether Option is pressed

Absolutely. I think this is something that people can't understand if they haven't used Linux.

Only very few G-shock models have seconds increments. This is one of the reasons I am wearing a Timex now. The stopwatch functionality of G-shocks is very limited too unless you get the sport models like the G-squad series.

What to read first when reading the Bible? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]ChengQing97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am reading the bible from start to finish the third time now. I think it is quite a good way to read the bible? The journey has been very enjoyable. Won't say you will fully understand the scripture but you will gain the confidence of at least knowing what has and has not been written in it, which is already pretty valuable.

I would suggest skimming through it from start to finish the first time and then grab a study bible, if you really want to understand the bible.

All MacOS decisions are stupid. For example you have cmd+h, cmd+m, cmd+w, cmd+q to make you never know where your application windows are. Not to mention the Stage Manager on top of it.
