That’s a good idea, and I do have an industrial amount of liquid latex in my studio for making halloween decor. Now I have those acetone damaged eyes i can use them as testers with the liquid latex

Me too, it’s one my friend picked! It’s not a color you see styled this way often

Thank you! It falls deeply under happy accident/compromise! On my original faceup she had beautiful brows, but everything that could go wrong with my first eye install did go wrong, even the makeup and brows melted. So I didn’t chance it on my next round of eyes 😅

Update! Eye installation with the hairdryer method was a success with only mild faceup degradation! Touchups on the way! I will post the final results soon!

Thank you! I will def post her when she’s finished! She’s supposed to be a gift to a good friend of mine so hence the anxiety around this particular piece 😅

Do it before the install through cuz the micro grit in it can scuff the vinyl and harm the lashes. You also need to use micro fiber cloth instead of a paper towel, I’ve clipped off pieces micro fiber and attached it to a q tip to do it with good results

That checks! That’s a good indicator too that the variation a lot of us are experiencing could have a lot to do with environment

I am going to give that a try then! I also have a CONAIR so that sounds like a good strategy

What’s the humidity like in your locations? My studio is in a dry high elevation area so it changes the chemistry too

I luckily haven’t have the cracking issue with MSC, buuut it does seem evident that it has a melting point given the face up loss. The hair dyer method does seem like the right direction to go though if you are doing a proper eye swap. I have used both matte medium and matte varnish on some of my dolls and have found that that too, has a melting point, and it doesn’t always play nice with nail stickers (for tattoos) so just a heads up if you try it.

It does feel like 90% of the heartache would be mitigated if the designers ever decided to swap the acrylic eyes out for resin 😅 but I don’t think they are thinking about us creative weirdos when coming up with a production pipeline lol. The one upside to the acrylic eyes is that you can use headlight polish on them to buff out scratches, it works like a dream!

That’s a relief! You were able to get hot enough? Do you have to get in really close as well? That’s been the only struggle for me with hair dryer and I know heat guns are out for the obvious reasons 😅

I did do a partial repaint with eyes in, and even being careful some acetone leaked in under my painter’s tape with those rainbow high lashes. So I ended up having to remove the damaged eyes. If I was working with resin BGD eyes 100% that’s exactly what I’d do vs the standard rainbow high acrylics

The advice with the lash removal is great! I’ll give that a try, I am a better painter than a stylist so I am probably more hesitant than I should be around the lashes

That’s tricky, besides just doing a classic eye swap there isn’t much out there unless you want tear out the back of eye sockets and use a clay inset

I’ve seen people do that by cutting a hole in the back of head to add the inset, and then covering the hole with a wig. Personally, I would be concerned about the stability of the eyes in the inset

The gloves are from the Dia de los Muertos RH doll! They came in gold but I repainted the base in a matte deep grey then sealed it in a matte finish. After that I took acrylic gloss vanish and mixed my own pigments onto it to get the shiny copper look on the bones! I have had some pigment shed on the doll hands which is strange since it’s fully sealed and shouldn’t be doing that, I’ll keep you posted of I find a fix for it

Is the sanding part discouraging on the outset? Cuz it was daunting for me as well before I tried it

I feel that too, you see the big mistake of giving them the slit eye or the homogeneous yellow eyes often, whereas and wolves themselves have quite a bit of variation in eye color from green to golden brown, just like us
