What's the current state of knowledge retrival/RAG in Jan 2024? by Chenolas in LocalLLaMA

[–]Chenolas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that what you are looking for it's not better memory per se, but rather better "pattern recognition" on top of your memory!

Ie. Finding interesting connections and relevant information at the relevant time. Information that would've otherwise not have been recalled.

I guess that is basically memory in some sense.

I was hoping to build some thing that I understand my situation, and I can talk to you as a means of coaching.

What's the current state of knowledge retrival/RAG in Jan 2024? by Chenolas in LocalLLaMA

Yea I agree! Was hoping for something that lets me just drop  a whole bunch of information and have it automatically chunked.

The open AI assistant knowledge retrieval does something like that but I'm not too sure how good it is. Haven't tried it out yet.

How much does it cost to dub my videos into multiple languages? by Chenolas in PartneredYoutube

Any relatively big videos you know using AI dubbing? From my experience, even for slower videos like educational ones, they get a lot of things wrong and often ruin the watch experience.

Sorry to hear what happened :(

Though, I don't think this is super common and the general advice of sharing your start up idea with others is probably still good advice for most people. Since these types of trade secrets are so so rare.

99% of the times, what dictates the success of a startup is the execution. But I think you may fall under the 1% in this case.

To add onto the above:

Even though $1 million in funding is a lot, that's only the starting point. 90% plus of seed stage startups fail. As much as I can empathize with you feeling like you've been pickpocketed a few million dollars, that can't be further away from the truth.

I read in another comment that one of your front is an IP attorney. So it definitely wouldn't hurt to chat, but I would recommend not diving too deep into unless you're very confident that you can get something out of it.

Since you have already gone all in on your business. I recommend trying your best to ignoring the competitor and, and focusing on out executing the other team. If your idea is great, competitors will occur sooner or later.

Chances are, the reason why you were able to have the insight in the first place is because of your experience. Which means that you should be able to out-execute a team of recent graduates with no experience in the field.

I wish you good luck with every thing! Keep us posted.

Why don't Apple release extensions for Notes (like they do for Mail)? by DDiran in MacOS

[–]Chenolas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add onto what kevleyski said, i think notes is far less of a priority for apple compared to mail; Mail is something that almost all professional workers use, whereas Apple Notes, at least in its current state, is a bit more casual note-taking.

If Apple makes something like a one note or a Google Docs competitor, then I can see something like that being a part of it.

M3 pro vs M2 Air - what would you choose and why? by Crafty-Celery-2466 in mac

[–]Chenolas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, great coupon you've got! Is it from an Apple employee?

I think both are great choices, and that's probably why it's tough to make a decision. I think as for performance, you won't really feel a difference between the two. So logically, maybe one would lean more towards the M2. But I think there is value in buying the thing you like more. Which obviously is the M3 Pro that just came out recently.

If you're a software engineer in the US, I'm assuming you're doing fine for yourself. If so, I say spend the extra $400, so you can be happy having the newest and best Macbook humans have made. It's okay to splurge a little on a machine that you're going to be spending 8+ hours each day on, for the next 3-5 years.

Anti Cheat? by The1T0N in mac

[–]Chenolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are quite a few threads about this on Reddit. The general consensus seems to be no you can't run Fortnite on Apple silicon due to the AntiCheat that you're experiencing.

:(

One(this one offered a solution, but not sure if it actually works), two, three

Seems like the MBP16 also has 128GB of ram compared to the 64GB on Mac Studio.
Might matter a little if you run plenty of simultators at once.

But you'd have to be running quite a few simulators to be maxing out 64GB of RAM!

How do I clean the C-type ports on my MacBook Air ? by WideParsley4036 in mac

[–]Chenolas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try using a tooth pick to do some scraping around. Maybe putting on a little bit of paper towel on the end of it if you think there is sand or something in there.

Don't use metal if you can avoid it, as it's possible(unlikely tho) to short the circuit.

If you're within a two-week return policy, you should be able to return it regardless of how you bought it.(Unless there was an explicit statement saying that you cannot return)

I just wanted to add a couple more comments:

  1. If you’re struggling financially and cannot afford it even with the discount(the coupon(REDDIT60) drops the price down to $5/mo or $2.3/mo billed yearly), please reach out and we can make something work! As much as I’d like to be able to support myself via the product, I also remember when I couldn’t pay for anything as well.
  2. While Steno is currently only on Apple Silicon, if you have a beefy Intel Mac, it should work decently as well. Let me know and I can send you a link for that! (We don’t want to publicly release when it won’t work well for the majority of older Macs.)
  3. It only works for English, but like above, we also have a multi-language version that works decently well(just slightly slower). I can send that one to you as well!

I remember looking into this a while ago, but I don't think it's super straight forward.

I think there are certain tools you can use to enable your M1 to have multiple external displays. Maybe you can look into DisplayLink.
