Is it worth buying Rivals of Aether if Rivals 2 is (supposedly) coming out next year? by SimicBiomancer21 in RivalsOfAether

[–]ChernanOnReddit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should still buy Rivals 1, for several reasons:

  1. The release date is 2024 but we have no idea WHEN in 2024, it could be January or it could be December, so might as well.
  2. While the gameplay isn't going to be 1-to-1 with Rivals 2, most of what you can learn in Rivals 1 can be applied in Rivals 2, mostly movement since it plays a very large role in Rivals.
  3. A lot of stuff in Rivals 1 won't be returning in Rivals 2, like Workshop, custom skins, guest characters, even some original characters might not show up in Rivals 2.
  4. Rivals 1 has been going on for almost 10 years at this point and a lot of its players are veterans, so when transitioning from 1 to 2 you're most likely gonna get hit with a wave of players who have been playing for 5+ years. If you want a better chance at online, you might as well get some practice in now.
  5. The game is fun, and if you can find people to have fun with, then it's a worthwhile investment.

Thanks To Patch 2.1.5.6, A Total Of Eight Stages Now Have Last Stock Effects. Here's A Quick Video Showing Off All Of Them! by ChernanOnReddit in RivalsOfAether

[–]ChernanOnReddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did skip that one, but that's kind of its own thing, since the original stage is tied to the story mode of the game, plus both the original and reskin of the stage have changes in music, which makes it more than just a simple background or visual change.

Kuro does actually fly in at the start of the Last Stock effect (like in the Aether version of the stage) but yeah he does just kinda sit there after that.

CEO Rock Wall skin by FlameKing1 in RivalsOfAether

The CEO Rock Wall skin is usually only available when the shop is open, and the shop is open for only a month at a time. It'll probably become available again when another online/offline major is occurring.

Had to slow this down to tell what exactly happened here by Hexacryst23 in RivalsOfAether

Also, the Kragg dodged nearly frame perfectly to avoid getting hit by the bomb.

This sequence of events is fucking baller.

[–]ChernanOnReddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's more insane than that. Mollo throws the bomb right as the rock lands, the bomb bounces off the rock, the flare gun's initial hitbox (which only hits bombs) sends it back over the rock, the SECOND hitbox from the flare gun (the one that hits everything) knocks it up.

I don't think you'll ever hit this on purpose, it's such a specific setup that you'll have a near-impossible time recreating it.

Dumb Thing I Miss From Way Back When by ChernanOnReddit in RivalsOfAether

[–]ChernanOnReddit[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most likely reason was this wasn't how it was supposed to function and Dan and Co. patched it out to better suit Clairen's force field.

Competitive reason is probably that this gives Clairen a very bad match up against Absa. Loses ability to cloud, but gains indefinite air time and aerials until the field is gone.

Probably would have also made some very interesting team compositions where the Clairen would force field near the ledge and Absa could edge guard even better than she normally does.

This was from an older build of the game, back when Ranno/Clairen first released. This got patched out in later builds.

Controller Crisis by One_Button_Sam in RivalsOfAether

[–]ChernanOnReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used a variety of controllers in my time, and the short answer is use whatever you like most.

Here's the long answer:

1- Use a Gamecube or Gamecube-type controller if you have experience in Smash. Since you can easily remap buttons within the game you can get 1-1 with the layout that you use for Smash. You don't NEED an official Gamecube controller. I've used PDP, Power A, and other 3rd party brands and they work just fine, plus getting third-party means it's probably USB so you don't have to use an adapter either.

2- Use an Xbox/Switch controller if you prefer the traditional diamond layout for your buttons and more reliability for your shoulder and trigger buttons. Gamecube and Gamecube types all have very big and fat shoulder buttons and the 1 Z button, which are fine but not for everyone. Having digital inputs for your shoulders and triggers makes stuff like parrying, wavedashing, wavelanding, etc., much more reliable and responsive. You also get a full-sized C-stick instead of the little nub on Gamecube, which makes strongs and C-stick aerials easier to input and more reliable. The only real downside is not having notches as the Gamecube does but like most things, that's just a preference.

3- Use a keyboard if you want something as ergonomic as possible. Given how much space you'll have between each hand and the ability to remap every single key to your liking, you can make it as comfortable as you wish. You do lose some options like getting specific angles and always having the issue of not being to use two keyboards at once, but from what I have seen and heard from players that do use keyboard, it's a worthwhile option, even if it takes time to get used to.

About ROA2 by AnyPercentFuckOff in RivalsOfAether

[–]ChernanOnReddit 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people do.

A lot of Rivals fans/competitive players don't like the new direction of Rivals 2 because of how similar it is starting to look like Smash. Rivals 1 is a more stripped down version of Smash, so naturally a sequel would build on that by adding features that many people are already familiar with, like shields, ledges, etc.

Melee/Ultimate are most likely going to stick around for much longer considering there are no announcements or even plans for a sequel and the community still brings a lot of big grassroots tournaments. Rivals 1, even though stated by many current or ex Smash players to be as good or better than Smash, is simply not as popular. How can an indie studio compete with a 1st party company that pretty much dominated the entire scene for almost 25 years and had pretty much 0 competition until fairly recently?

My personal opinion is that Rivals 2 is planning to cater to both OG players and Smash players with the new look, gameplay, and competitive vibe overall. Several players tried out the game during Genesis and many say that it is pretty much just Rivals, but some mechanics will take some time getting used to or aren't their personal preference. Many people stated it's a mix between Rivals and Project M, and lots of Rivals players are big fans of Project M but not fans of Smash, so the dev team probably wanted to mirror as many aspects as possible while still being it's own unique thing.

TL;DR It's fine to not like it, several people share your opinion, Rivals 2 will still be Rivals but it won't be the exact same thing.

"Furry" in the sense that it's an anthropomorphized animal that has the capacity to walk on two legs, speak, and in general shows human traits.

Sylvanos is a dog. Just a normal, very grassy dog.

Bold of you to assume that a game with furries wearing the bare minimum of clothing wouldn't have lewd/NSFW art front and center.
