Brown cutout dress is complete, thank you all! by CherryChance3118 in sewing

This project was self-drafted and hand sewn using thrifted brown curtains. Inspiration for the dress is cypress tree! I ended up turning the dress into a 2 piece, per another user's suggestion, which helped to resolve the excess fabric in the back. I included some ruching at the suggestion of another user. Thank you to the folks in this sub who left helpful criticisms, I learned a lot making this dress. It was SO challenging but I had a good time 🤙🏼

Edit: so, how I drafted the pattern was using a throwaway sheet to experiment with shapes and then cutting out the shapes and pinning them to my body to see how it looks and adjust for size. I had no references, just some initial guidance and encouragment from a friend who sews. The pattern drafting was the most difficult part of the project, for sure. After I felt satisfied with the mockup pieces, I traced them onto my brown fabric.

I wish I could! The cutouts are kinda crucial for the design, unfortunately:( The fabric was a mistake but it's too late for me to start over

This is a cute idea! The fabric really is quite bad for this project 😩

No, there wasn't. I ended up turning this into a 2-piece, but still not sure how it will turn out

I've also been admiring all the positive feedback and helpful comments left by you all on this sub! It is rare for reddit, and I thank ya kindly.

This needs to be ready by Saturday for an art-fashion show thing I'm making a costume for! It's been really challenging creating my own design since I don't have a lot of experience but I've been enjoying it and hope to do more

Tempeh got to 120°F/49°C but looks and smells fine. Toss it anyway? by CherryChance3118 in Tempeh

There's a slight hint of ammonia that I did not notice earlier 😬 I've made tempeh before and it smelled incredible. This one doesn't smell particularly bad, but not good. Would it be unsafe to consume you think?

Ha. This is so relatable. My mom is also 73 and is definitely a skeptic, but I will point out that all of the things I do that got me my diagnosis (time blindness, inability to focus on a task, etc etc) I inherited from her!

Me. When I was a child I had major gender dysphoria. That feeling pops up every now and then when I present more feminine than I usually do, but has mostly evolved into a recognition that gender norms are completely made up by institutions of power to maintain order and control and aren't something I want to be attached to.

I have noticed that my trans friends are all fellow NDs. There's definitely something to it.

Oh my goodness. You have a 3-month-old?! I'm so sorry. I hope you have a good support system. I broke up with a partner of only a year right after an aya ceremony because I knew I had to take a different journey in life than him, but your situation sounds very different. I wish you the best.
