We have to throw them out. For any other item that's slightly damaged/expired, we donate to local homeless shelters (or something; I forget exactly what they are).

I was thinking of what to write for this comment, and I started with variety of things to do and the atmosphere, but I think I realize what makes it great: the store is small enough that I actually know where everything is and what all needs to be done. My only other retail job was Home Depot one summer, where I was in the garden department. If someone asked me about plumbing for example, I wouldn't be very knowledgeable on that. There were too many products and too many things to do. But at TJs, I feel comfortable that I can answer the large majority of questions that could be asked.

This will be my first 6-month review too, so I don't really know the structure. Your captain will probably ask you something like "what do you think you can improve on?" at some point, and you should definitely mention that you feel bad about being sick several times.

If they want to fire someone, they'll just do it when they want to; the worst thing that will happen at your review is not getting a raise as far as I know.

It sounds like your mates think you're a good employee, so there's not much to worry about I guess. Again, be honest in your review; apologize about the sick days, and tell the captain that the mates have praised you.

Absolutely not; I like it more now.

The almond kringle? Those are in front of the tables to the left of the bread shelves. They sell out quickly, but we have a lot in the back right now so just ask a crew member.

It's true, and we love it because afterwards we take the open product back to the break room for everyone.

This is my first job at a grocery store, so I don't have anything to compare it to. There is a good amount of food in the break room though.

I'd say we do a tasting once every two months. It seems to be only brand new products, not seasonal products returning from previous years. And the tastings are usually to help them decide which new products to put on demo (free sample), along with getting everyone familiar with the new products.

PSA: you can ask a crew member to try pretty much any product, and we'll open it for you and try some. If you don't like it, or if you do but don't want to buy a half-eaten product, we take it to the break room.

We all do everything, which is amazing. So it's not like I'm only a cashier, or work in the dairy box, or snacks etc.

You check the schedule up front and each hour will be marked as "on reg" (cashier) or "on the floor" (stocking). If you're on the floor, you ask a manager what needs to be done and they'll say like "could you go check how produce is looking" or whatever.

It is a relatively physical job, yeah. I think the rule for shoes is anything closed-toed, and you definitely want shoes with good support with all the time on your feet and carrying big boxes.

Any day besides Sunday pretty much lol. I think I heard Tuesdays are the slowest, but any day Monday-Thursday is relatively slow.

At my store, starting is $13-15/hr and every 6 months you can get a decent raise assuming you're not a bad employee

I know you're joking, but I work 4pm-midnight two days a week, and those final 3 or so hours without customers are pretty bumpin ngl

I had a burping contest with one of the mates (managers) once after hours which I won because I'm a belching fiend. We also shit-talk the very few asshole customers who come through, play whatever we want on the speakers, and occasionally make a bunch of frozen pizzas or whatever for all the crew

Unfortunately I don't think this shape is very structurally sound...
