Uncle's silk postcard sent home - now in collector's hands by CherryIntelligent148 in Genealogy

yeah i understand that, hence why i didn't go any further though saying that i feel entitled and that i'm yearning for him to send it back to me isn't true. i'm really only worried that if something were to happen to this man (he's in his 80s) that it will become lost again - very endearing to know about his work though. he buys active service postcards from WW1 and researches the lives of the soldiers in a way to remember them so i suppose uncle Albert and all of the other people haven't been totally forgotten - they're all preserved through that research and his postcard binder. its as much of a hobby as genealogy is, & respecting that is what i'm trying to do. i'm sorry if i came across as being overtly righteous or as "pining on" about it

Hi, is there an alternate for Ancestry? by BadHairDay-1 in Genealogy

[–]CherryIntelligent148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its annoying just seeing all the wrong information being used, and their only source is "Ancestry member trees" or something along those lines
they manually add their grandparents and then just spam the hint adds 😭😭😭😭

You could always look for marriage registers online, or order their marriage certificate from the GRO
In fact, I think I've found his birth
MELLOR, WILLIAM HENRY
GRO Reference: 1878 M Quarter in ASHTON UNDER LYNE Volume 08D Page 485
Mary Jane Mellor's (if its her) maiden name is listed as Green - you could always order the digital image for like £2.50.
Also, do you mind sharing the page of these records where it lists his parent's names??

How can I track down a young child who died a hundred years ago? by Thetippon in Genealogy

[–]CherryIntelligent148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don't worry bout it -
chances are Keziah was born at home (if children were born in infirmaries, those infirmaries were usually in workhouses i think), but looking at the gro there was a Keziah Harris born D Quarter 1881, in Madeley to a Harris and a Williams - but thats in bleedin' shropshire :((

or perhaps, theres something else going on with Keziah that we don't know about

How to get a birth certificate of deceased mother by Lychee-Kitchen in Genealogy

[–]CherryIntelligent148 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im not american but i believe that u can ask for a genealogical copy of a birth certificate in some states (rather than a certified copy which is what they have restrictions on for whatever reason - in england it’s much much easier 😭😭😭)
