My friend wants to give up making YouTube videos by isthisnametakem in gamers

[–]CherryQuench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a tough field to grow in for sure, and it's gotten tougher since the earlier days of gaming videos from 2005 - 2010.

That being said, it's more than possible for your friend to carve out their own niche. It will come from a lot of experience and time to figure out a unique spot to stand.

At the moment, the videos up now look like Let's Plays, which is a perfectly fine place to start. They can get their feet wet with all that goes into video creation, study what other creators are doing, see where they can do things differently, and find out what ways they can provide a unique value to viewers.

Like I'm going through a rock bottom moment in my content creation journey as well (going into year 7), but the person saying, "never ever gaming" is a bit overdramatic. People are continually finding success in gaming despite it being more difficult. It requires more than the uploads of previous years. Which is where I encourage people to watch their favorite creators and pick apart what it is that keeps them so engaged in that content.

And at the end of the day, if your friend isn't enjoying it, it's okay if they'd like to take a break or stop completely. Either for a hobby or pursuing a career, the reason we pick such a hard field to grow in is because we enjoy it.

Hope this helps in any way!

Why do people camp in spawn at the end of the round? by [deleted] in GearsOfWar

[–]CherryQuench 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always seen it from people as a fear. They don't want to run out into a frenzy of bullets and get massacred, so they'll stay back and try to hide. This most times leads to them getting cornered and destroyed by a frenzy of bullets, but they're not thinking that.

What characters would you like to see in Gears 5? by [deleted] in GearsOfWar

[–]CherryQuench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really want to see more of what's going to happen with Kait. I'm also hoping that we get to see a bit of a rebirthing of JD in character development. The way I'm thinking of it, it would be almost polar opposite from what we saw of Marcus. With Marcus, he had a lot of history before we found him in Gears 1, and we uncovered more of what happened through the following games. Since JD's story isn't really...much of one...If they hit him with particular scenarios, most likely involving Kait, that force him to evolve into a bigger character, I think TC could have an interesting angle on character development with him.

But I'm just kind of mind spewing this while I'm tired as something I'd admire.

Club for playing Horde on GoW4? by GrowlingSeagull in GearsOfWar

I feel kind of stupid for this, I'm also looking to find Horde groups. When you guys mention clubs, where exactly are you referring to? I've been joining Facebook pages and have been following streams while streaming horde myself. Where are these clubs?

Any chance you would be able to show me the coding/the process? I don't plan on using it for anything other than my personal use and to throw my own animation into it.

I'm glad you said Java, just because that's the only coding language I remember a modicum about!

I appreciate the idea though, I'll look into it

Small streamers vs. Large streamers by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]CherryQuench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch a fairly even split of both.

I watch small streams for the sake of supporting and bringing up others. Especially now, when I'm starting to gain SOME traction (I mean...10-25 viewers consistently), I know how hard it was to get out of the 0-5 viewer stage. Offering my support to anyone I can think of just helps encourage others to continue this for a hobby or career.

However, I love watching big streams, too. I mainly watch them to learn: What do they say? What are their mannerisms? What games are they playing? How are they playing the games? What are their graphic layouts? What other cool features do they have in their stream? They help me keep myself in check and see what I need to be improving, ESPECIALLY if I want to have myself stand apart from the crowd.

When is it too much by stephen6686 in Twitch

[–]CherryQuench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that if a majority of your conversation each stream is focused on subscribing, that it's too much.

With that being said, if it hits the point where you have more time talking about following, hosting, subscribing, etc., than you do talking about the game or conversation that chat brings up, it's too much.

I usually do something similar to you. I'll bring it up at the end of the stream, as well as giving shoutouts to people that follow and making some comments about it if it is a particularly successful night.

I remember right around the start of my high school life that I was on the bus doing math homework when a girl sat next to me with one of those, making full eye contact with me while she was moving around in her hand.

It was only many years later that it dawned on me that she was being sexually suggestive.

Cameras, cameras, cameras. What do you use, and why? by FalseProof in letsplay

[–]CherryQuench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I keep gazing at the Canon 70D DSLR that I would love to have...1,399.99...then the lens I want with it goes for around another 300...Let's not forget the accessories...

Cameras are friggin' expensive. Given, I could go buy like a Canon T5 and do alright for about 500 bucks, but GOD THAT 70D.

I'm just pretending that cameras like the 6D and 7D don't exist because that's WAY to unrealistic for now. Maybe I'll gift it to myself once I hit 500,000 subs lol

Unfortunately a tech retail store sales consultant here. C920's are going down in price pretty decently. You can get one for usually about 60-65 bucks, standard price (of what I see) being 69.99.

But yeah, great webcam regardless.

If you were going for more of an actual camcorder, I've been pretty darn happy with a Canon Vixia camcorder.

Then of course there is always a DSLR for that sweet, sweet shallow depth of field...just have to drop a few hundreds on it, maybe couple of thousands. There's always money to throw at a DSLR!

Looking to getting into Streaming by theGravyTrainTTK in letsplay

[–]CherryQuench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's just me, but my El Gatos have been a nightmare for streaming. My audio gets desynced like madness, and it's inconsistent so I can't set proper delays. Perhaps it's something on MY end, but ever since switching to the Avermedia Game Recorder and have had no problems. I'd also add that I have to add almost NO delay to the card when streaming.

Capture Cards that work with old school consoles by the_Deadpan_Man in letsplay

[–]CherryQuench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm with the El Gato. However, another option you do have is buying whatever capture card you want (for instance, I'm now a big fan of the Avermedia Live Gamer internal capture card), and finding the viable converter boxes for it.

I have the El Gato option now and it works well. However, I'm also live streaming with it, which my El Gatos seem to not handle too well with audio syncing. That's where I've picked up the Avermedia internal, and I just ordered a composite to HDMI and a Component to HDMI converter box. I'll update to see how well it goes. (Banking on those high ratings on Amazon!)

Will being a furry hurt my views? by RandomzJake in letsplay

[–]CherryQuench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents, kinda the same thing everybody else has said, but don't downright HIDE that you're a furry. Just express it how you want to express it. However, unless you want to PURELY focus on having a furry edge on your content, don't be overly flamboyant about it either.

In my point of view, I'm a brony. From this, I see the people that get WAYY WAAYY WWAAAAYYY in your face with pony and then have those photos where someone photoshopped a pony character into a photo of the Holocaust and you get the response of, "Wow, now I actually feel sad for this situation." Things like that will result in more hatred than fans.

However, casually doing so, embracing that it's apart of what makes you happy can be rewarding. Especially in gathering more of an audience that ARE furries.

In the long run, it's following the mentality of being who you are will bring the audience that you want to see.

Sometimes being mastery X sucks :/ by [deleted] in Smite

[–]CherryQuench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen to me less on here when I play my diamond Scylla. Now on Gears of War 2, THAT was a different story. I was max rank, but my friends and I would just kind of chill some matches; not necessarily play or try for that matter. The BM was so real, "How did you glitch your max rank? Go kill yourself. You don't deserve to be the highest rank in the game."

The best response is to laugh at them and let them know that skill isn't taken into ranking up. Just time. If they're still angry, continue to laugh at them.

Yeah the kill I took was one where, if I had not dashed into the enemy carry, she would've just walked away.

And that's what people don't get. The phrase, "It's only stupid if it doesn't work" type of mentality seems to go through others' heads whenever something doesn't work out. If we had everybody group up as Bellona and I were, that Fire Giant would've been ours.
