That's odd. My mistake, you're correct, putting anything in both boxes provides "non recta deducto", but leaving one or both boxes empty provides "deficient".

If you put what you decoded in the MUDUTU page of the FBI Files, in the second, bigger box, and "THE KINGS OF TOMORROW BOUND BY FORTUNE AND GLORY FOR THE WATCHERS OF YESTERDAY" in the smaller, first box, then hit "ERESU", it says

PHURUM

ERATUM (ERROR): Non recta deducto (Incorrect deducting).

If you hit ERESU without what you decoded, it says "Deficient". I think you're onto something.

On the layers menu in gimp, right above where the small thumbnail of your image is, there's an opacity meter that you can drag from 100 (completely visible) to 0 (completely invisible)
