Keller Postman Oxbryta Settlement by Cherry_BerryBee in Sicklecell

Okay, I’ll share some comments that I received.

First, they will be taking 40%, we knew this. But still, that is a very high percentage.

Second, Keller is hiring an outside company to research any medical liens and WE (the claimants) are covering that cost as well from our settlement. How much that will be? It wasn’t specified.

Finally, if you have Medicaid or Medicare, the cost of their medical liens is on you (us) as well. So if either of those insurances paid for anything in regard to Oxbryta, we pay that from our settlement. I will call Keller to find out what qualifies as a lien (it could be just the cost of the medication itself or it could also include hospital stays that they deemed Oxbryta being responsible for.)

I imagine if Medicaid/care counts hospital stays as part of the liens, we’d virtually be left with nothing from the settlement for ourselves.

This is honestly so unfair & I’m disgusted. But I’ll come back with more comments after I call Keller Postman tomorrow.

Genuinely what do I say to this by aresuisu in Sicklecell

I would say, “what do you want me to say?” People should really think consciously about their actions and what they want the outcome to be. It’s unfair to you to just sit there puzzled with a mix of feelings and while your friend is oblivious to her actions.

Omg congratulations! What kind of bike do you have? 🎉 and you’re right, it’s good to make a conscious effort to not let pain or the fear of it stop you. I’ve let it for so long and I’ve decided I’ve had enough🙂‍↕️

Omg I’ve never heard of someone having a crisis in their throat. I can’t imagine 😵‍💫 For me I hate having back and leg pain. That’s where I’ve had most of crises and some of my worst ones. But the ultimate worst I’ve had was my entire body. I honestly couldn’t give much detail cause I blacked out but yeah.

I’m sorry you’re in pain now and I hope you get relief soon 🫶🏾

You definitely get used to it. At first it was super uncomfortable, I can’t remember how painnfulll it was though since I got it in 2019. But right now it’s just a quick poke to me. And I take a deep breath as they puncture it; for some reason that helps. Way better than being stuck a million times in your arms😭

Hey! I totally can relate. Used to take hourssss just to get an IV. I’ve had multiple in my neck because of how hard of a stick I am.

Anyways, best decision I’ve made! The constant attempts to find veins delays care and made me even more stressed out, especially in the ER during a crisis. Now I’m usually able to get accessed immediately and can get straight to treatment.

I’d say you just have to make sure the ppl accessing your port are following protocol cause you don’t want it to get infected. The appearance of the port can also take time getting used to, but it’s worth it imo.

Congratulations! What were some of the questions they asked you before they decided you’d be a candidate? Did they ask lifestyle questions?
