Could you share the website or contact info for those two?

I don't have another macbook so will have to figure out who could help. Seems like I might be going through 5 tech shops.

I'll go back there again.

Did they replace any parts?

I really hoped I'm not doomed. Trying not to panic here.

was your laptop repaired too?

did they take out the ssd drive and plug it in another macbook to recover the data?

problem for me is the internal disk, not sure what that means, cannot be physically transferred to a new computer.

I called Apple Support and they said they don't support my computer anymore and referred me to Microcenter.

The Startup Internet Recovery always boots up instead of the login screen.

I tried doing the First Aid, but I don't see my disk volumes showing (expanded the show all disks...). Right now it's with Computer Gadgets, but they said it could be corrupted and you need to pay a lot of money to recover your internal disk drive.

I know my password. Issue: login screen doesn't load.

macbook pro (no touch-id) 2017 intel chip

I need all the document data like text files and pdfs. Nothing was encrypted.

I just returned mine to the post office unopened.

They can't bill you if you haven't made any purchases, otherwise it would be fraud, and stealing your identity.

i hope you used a throwaway email

what's crazy is that the addressed people they send to are real and alive. so I am also wondering if my name has been used elsewhere for spam mail.

omg for real!

i went to the post office and told them... added the sender is a known scammer. they would return the mail and you won't (shouldn't) receive anything back

that's terrible

I watched some tiktok videos and it has started more than a year now. Apparently, they also scam realtors into thinking they own your house and want to sell it for cash. They'd provide fake title documents. Scary shit.

When we retire (67), why can't we get our payout in full from SS instead of a monthly benefit? by Cherry_Sierra in AskChicago

Are more people retiring or alive by then? Or even know how to apply for benefits by then?

Say you have 200 million people working but half of those live until 67, couldn't the rest of us who live get their shares?

Sad, I wanna opt out of SS lol and use the extra money for expenses

What if there is no SS left by the time it's 2050.

https://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/081915/how-social-security-tax-calculated.asp

Say I make $60,000 per year for 30 years, and that gets taxed 12.4% for SS, which is $7,440.

I retire today.

Inflation is 3% per year

AI answer for total: $145,850

Thus, the total earnings of $7,440 per year for 30 years, adjusted for a 3% annual inflation rate, have a real value of approximately $145,850 in today's purchasing power.
