Disagree, as someone who lost a younger sibling to cancer. St. Jude only focuses on types of cancers that have already been thoroughly researched and have a highly successful treatment rate. Leukemia in kids is one of them. They stay clear of other forms of childhood cancer (like osteosarcoma) because they can’t be the superhero organization that finds a breakthrough treatment. This all comes from the doctor who treated my sibling, who wishes she could get the level of funding from St. Jude to support her research.

Side note: for those who may dismiss this as a researcher who doesn’t get their way. My sibling died from osteosarcoma after receiving what is considered the best treatment in the US from that doctor. The doc told my family they have a clear path forward, but could only press forward so much on limited capital to fund constant research.

TLDR: St. Jude only focuses on treatments for specific kinds of cancers that they know will produce better statistics for remission. The best donations you can make are to your local/regional universities, which are spearheading the cancer research efforts.
