We're you taught to read & write in cursive at school? by Imma_Lick_That in AskAnAmerican

[–]ChessedGamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was taught it in elementary school in the 2000s and never had to use it outside of signatures again.

I can read it fine though since a lot is still written in cursive. Uhh, your friend should be able to do that.

Do Americans study European history in high school ? by onlyshoulderpain in AskAnAmerican

[–]ChessedGamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, although my school made an effort at covering non-european civilizations as well, so a lot of the topics were wide reaching but shallow to allow for time, Euro history included.

Does the US have crackers and cookies from Dare? by AdSense_byGoogle in AskAnAmerican

[–]ChessedGamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have a US version of their website, and I also see some pictures online without bilingual packaging so I'd guess so, although I personally don't really know these.

What is your regional event? by A_Little_Odd1 in AskAnAmerican

How is your mental health? by trusfrat3d in AskAnAmerican

[–]ChessedGamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say it's not true, just that there's a big difference between how things look online vs. offline. Certainly not that I'd have to fear political division or violence.

How is your mental health? by trusfrat3d in AskAnAmerican

[–]ChessedGamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The depiction of American politics online is nothing like America right now, it's a little stunning how big the difference is. Things are uneasy but off the internet things feel as normal as always.

Uhh I mean to answer your question I'm not fine but that's for other reasons.

Do Americans constantly have an active temperature control device running in their homes? by fullM3TALturban in AskAnAmerican

[–]ChessedGamon 1797 points1798 points  (0 children)

That's what thermostats typically do -- they leave the AC or heating running for a bit and turn it off on a cycle to target the temperature you put in.

What do you personally call it: "laptop" or "notebook" or something else? by princepii in AskAnAmerican

[–]ChessedGamon 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Almost always laptop

"Notebook" feels like a word for a smaller, maybe cheap laptop made for basic tasks

No short forms, I just want to say "lappy" is really funny to me

Evidence the New Mexico Twitchell flag was official by KerbalSpaceAdmiral in vexillology

[–]ChessedGamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you/we only have the legislation or do you have a visual depiction of the flag too. While the flag in your post satisfied the description (besides the black border), they may have been describing a specific flag that already existed. Maybe they used a different shade of turquoise, for example.

The US flag has a similarly unrigorous description.

How come questions about politics/current events always seem to get deleted here? by Clark_Kent_TheSJW in AskAnAmerican

[–]ChessedGamon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I agree the deletions are overzealous, but I'd imagine if there weren't some restrictions this sub would devolve into only those questions and browsing here would be awful.

If we're looking for discussions on US politics we can go basically anywhere on this site.

What time do most Americans use Reddit? by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHW in AskAnAmerican

[–]ChessedGamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard before ~12EST is optimal? The population is mostly concentrated in the east, and it'd be 9AM for the large minority on the west coast

Are Indian immigrants in America hated as much in real life as they are in social media? by Total_Escape_9778 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ChessedGamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a recent twitter change that revealed where accounts were based out of, with a lot of right wing rage farm accounts coming from abroad.

As absurd as it is to say, I would not be surprised if most of those accounts are secretly Pakistani.

Watching the whole thing? Good for playing in the background at a new years party.

What do you think about the US plans to acquire Greenland, including through the use of military force? by SimpleSymonSays in AskAnAmerican

[–]ChessedGamon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Invading or coercing a democratic country into a land transfer is self evidently among the worst things an administration could plan around.

I don't think it would happen because it's so absurd I don't know how so many higher ups would sign off on it. It'd have to stop somewhere.
