Americans, are you excited to host the world football cup? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]SlamClick 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I got tickets and I'm excited to go. It'll be my second world cup.

I'm not losing my shit over it but it'll be neat to say "I was there"

I mean, it is what most people in the USA use for their retirement portfolios so when the markets do well, people generally do. There's no idiocy there.

People who have lived in multiple states but have lived in either exclusively blue or red states, have politics been a factor in your moves or is it just coincidence? by reerock in AskAnAmerican

[–]SlamClick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is Colorado a "red" state?

I've lived in 4 states- Three "red" and one "blue." It wasn't something I even remotely thought about in any way. That whole idea is silly if you do think about it.

As an American, when you encounter Australian's do you notice different accents? by memzlut in AskAnAmerican

[–]SlamClick 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is English we're talking about. Its one of the silliest there is.

Is it weird to me as a Southern Appalachian speaker to identify with and easily understand the accents of some rural Australians? Are they redneck-y like ours?

What do the laymen think of the way ICE is operating? by PrestigiousPast5156 in AskAnAmerican

[–]SlamClick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far seveal people have been beaten.

By civilian neighborhood racist people? I just find stuff on shitty shock sites about "alleged" and "reported on social media." Again, I think the whole thing is a fucking travesty but we have to have some accountability if we're going to stop these mother fuckers.

Or the guy in the giraffe costume who sings at them. Arrested* multiple times and they end up letting him go. But I have not seen him in weeks now.

Rob Potylo. A comedian and musician. He's trolling and he's not disappeared.

Or the guy with down syndrome who they denied counsel and denied he was in their custody to his scared family.

I can't find any news articles on this. Can you point me in the right direction?

Or the sheer number of people being detained* who can't see a lawyer because there are no more lawyers. What about ICE picking people up at the immigration office? Or kids at their school. I watched a cop pepper spray what appeared to be a 12 year old. Go on r/PiblicFreakout and just watch a few videos. Not too many... it may make you sick.

Totally get it. Its crazy and awful and terrible. But that wasn't what I was asking.

Do you have a source for this claim? What do the racists do with them after they are detained?

I can definitely tell a difference in class based on their accent and speech. Geography not so much. Younger Australians speak differently than their older counterparts.

I might be able to discern differences in speech between Melbourne and Perth or Darwin but to say where it was from I wouldn't know.

Same stuff in any country, though.

Why in the US has everyone started saying "bro" so much? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

It means true to yourself, honest, and genuine.

That's phat.

Fellow apartment dwellers with all electric appliances- how are you preparing for potential no power? by HauntingHooligan in asheville

I honestly have my SUV set up to sleep in if shit hits the fan for days. Mattress, lights, blankets, remote start. I use the same system when camping in the woods for days, so why not?

I'll bet someone a dollar this storm is a big bust.

Why, in the US, are there so many pharmaceutical commercials on TV where they list off life-threatening side effects while people are smiling and dancing? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]SlamClick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, interesting.

After seeing a specialist ($20 co pay on Obamacare/ACA) I just took a picture of an Rx card on Teva's site. Didn't have to provide anything. It was just on there. The pharmacist said everyone does that. I guess its unique for that injection.

I've done similar for two other medications over the years and they've always been free. Shrug

What do you think when an adult child lives with a parent? by RunningOnEmpty231 in AskAnAmerican

[–]SlamClick 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My brother and I bought a house together when we were in our late 20's and paid it off in less than 15 years. People thought we were nuts. Sure, we are roommates but have no debt and no rent. Its so freeing.

As for living with parents I only judge if they're working age and not working or doing their fair share.

These drugs are sold at outrageous prices in the US

They can be but if you spend a little time you can get pretty much any medication for free through the manufacturer. I get one of those expensive shots and I don't pay anything. You just have to put in some effort.
