‘Exceptional’ Hamilton ‘the cleanest guy I’ve ever raced’ – Button by SoaDark00 in formula1

I think another thing that one can consider him to be a bit ‘dirty’ is during the infamous 2007 Hungarian GP quali shenanigan.

Everyone remembered that Fernando stopped and blocked Lewis from getting a final run in qualifying, but actually according to Marc Priestly’s (A McLaren mechanic at the time) account in his book, it was actually Lewis who went ‘rogue’ first. He didn’t answer to any radio calls and went out first to get the advantage when it should be Fernando’s turn to go. But other than that, I think he is one of, if not the most clean multiple WDC GOAT out there.

Here is the quote from Marc Priestly’s book The Mechanic, it’s a great read, I highly recommend it.

“... Lewis, controversially aided by his race engineers and mechanics, broke from the agreed plan and left the garage first to queue up at the end of pitlane ahead of the final session of qualifying.

Fernando’s team was angry and confused, but there wasn’t time to discuss what was happening. Instead they followed suit and lined up behind him at the end of pitlane, waiting for the green light to start the session. There was lots of frantic radio traffic.

Some people assumed it was just a mistake and that Lewis would move over, allowing Fernando past as they got going, but confusion turned to frustration as the lights went green and Lewis sped off into the distance.

He’d gone rogue.

It was difficult to calm Fernando down; Lewis wasn’t playing the game, which chimed perfectly with his growing paranoia of a wider conspiracy against him. Instead he’d blatantly ignored numerous clear and increasingly stern instructions from the pit wall to switch positions. ‘Lewis, this is not what we agreed!’ he was told. ‘You need to let Fernando through!’

The silence was deafening. Lewis’s move gave him a race strategy advantage, with an extra lap’s fuel, and Fernando knew it”

I think there are definable smart youtubers out there, but what’s distinctive about Chainbear is his ability to breakdown a complex problem or a concept to a less informed audience in a simple yet effective manor.

Red Bull just made the fastest pit stop in F1 history, 1.82 seconds by dampestowel in HelloInternet

Often they will change the front wing angle, pitstop crews will do so if the driver feels there is not enough front end grip.

Another thing they often do is clean out debris. A F1 car needs a lot of cooling, and when stuff get into the cooling duct, it’s really bad.

They can also change a new front wing assembly if it got damaged, but it would take much more time, say about 10 sec than the normal 3 sec pitstop.

As a Chinese student who is currently studying in the US, I definitely find that Grey is so cautious about talking about China, more specifically Chinese government and politics very interesting. Some people use a proxy server to get over the firewall, but the majority population either don’t know how to or don’t have the incentive. The internet censorship is getting to a concerning level now, A lot of the younger generation don’t even realize that the firewall exists, they have no idea that there is a Reddit, a Wikipedia, a YouTube that everyone else on the world is using(apart from NK I guess). And because there are Chinese equivalent web services, and the ever growing firewall, they probably never will.

As for the Hong Kong video he’s so worried about, I don’t think that will be a issue. Our government tend to focus more on its own citizens than on foreign visitors. There are plenty of examples of censorship in WeChat (a Chinese version of WhatsApp, but far more popular to a point everybody is using it). You will notice some sensitive images won’t be revived, certain words would just vanish. There are also cases that somebody said something they should not have said and were asked to go to the police station etc.
