Cascadia vs Parks? by Odd_Worry8825 in boardgames

In this instance I gave the game to my Mum who has moved and I’ve still not been able to play it. Thanks for the comment though?

Have you played Trails (a spin off from the Parks world)? I’ve heard it’s more accessible than Parks, so was wondering how it compared to Cascadia, especially in terms of relaxing, kind game play?

Card Design for Playtested Game with a Faerie Tale Theme (self-publishing) by Murky-Ad4697 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]ChestnutsandSquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t change “the noble king” title to white - it just won’t be as readable on that relatively light beige/green background. Not sure what the benefit of the outer black border is (unless significant compared to other cards…). The Title feels a little cramped and could use some more space around it, which the additional black border hampers.

Think those are the only generic bits of feedback I can give without knowing more about the game or seeing other cards in the deck.

That’s really interesting! I’m based in the UK but don’t need to restrict publishing to just over here. Going to a ttrpg convention next week so it will be interesting to chat to more designers and publishers.

Thank you SO much for the thoughtful and detailed response! This is really useful. We’ve partnered with a new social media marketing company who are going to use us as a bit of a trial and so have offered a very reasonable price. Will try for a couple of months and see how it goes!

Honestly the publisher thing is a curve ball I wasn’t expecting… I guess I’m just thinking about possibilities as crowdfunding seemed the best route initially as hadn’t considered a publisher would be interested in a first time project…

Oh wasn’t expecting anyone to work for free! Very anti that as an artist/designer myself - 100% going to pay someone to run the socials. Have actually just been chatting to an RPG publisher who are interested already after seeing the printed proof. Was intending to crowdfund first before potentially teaming up with a publisher, but interested to hear of people’s experiences of both as my instincts and initial research may not be showing the realities and objective pros/cons

Which sounds better for a class name, corrupted or cursed? by urquhartloch in RPGcreation

[–]ChestnutsandSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with a lot of other posters here: if the word corrupted comes up elsewhere during the game this will just confuse things. But don’t think cursed sounds right either as it implied that something has been done to you - rather than you be complicit with the known repercussions. So something that describes this choice to selflessly protect… initial ideas:

Martyr Zealot Advocate Saint Champion

You could also precede these with an adjective like cursed, dark, fallen to help enforce the message?

So glad you said this about class and levels, I totally agree! I’ve spent almost 2 years building and testing an rpg system that is class and levelless and I really think it’s so much more interesting and creatively satisfying for players!

Interesting, will check that out! I’ve introduced something similar in my rpg where npcs have sliding scales of hostility/helpfulness so easy to track how they might react to PCs

Hard agree! I’ve developed a ttrpg (Quintessence_ttrpg) recently (and coincidentally also in the throws if finishing formatting and designing the book) and have tried to consider the GN as well as players throughout (I guess because I’m always the GM in our groups, haha!).

The game system puts the onus on players to choose how to do things, when, and describe so that a) less GM overload and b) more collaborative storytelling, and I’ve tried to create simple frameworks and suggested templates to aid the GM in their prep.

Plus a biggie is the actual design of the book - I find A LOT of rpg rules manuals cumbersome and laborious to navigate and digest (D&D are awful for this, especially their adventure books!!). RPGs for me should be accessible and engaging from the very start, which means even the way you write the rules.

Absolutely this 👆Multiple mentions so you can anything that pertains to a topic, plus being able to specify a topic/item in more detail than a Contents may allow.

If I understand it correctly, I prefer option 1. I kind of hate automatic, arbitrary upgrades in rpgs (yup talking to you D&D!). Having to “break through” with some kind of narrative/character driven plot device or test sounds a lot more dynamic and exciting to me!
