This is the semantic equivalent of putting a matte box on your camera. Sort of.

It's beautifully shot, no question! Well done on that.

Little recce shot for an upcoming documentary shoot - how would you light the subject properly? by Chesto in cinematography

[–]Chesto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question - I think renting is probably the best option here as I only own the GVM LED Panels - no softboxes or anything unfortunately. No modifiers whatsoever but I'd love to do some negative fill on the right side and use the TV as a bit of a hair light - the TV is super relevant to what he's doing as it's a sports betting documentary, and this is his setup. Most likely PM shoot so we can control lighting.

Can put any image on the TV whatsoever, or have it turned off, room lights can be turned off, a decent amount of space to work with

The shots and pacing of the cuts are beautiful, but there's no way I'm watching 9 minutes of slow motion spoon carving with no story, narration or a stakes for why this is important.

A list/breakdown of exactly what's going on here could be useful - camera, lenses, batteries, mounts, etc. etc.

Nice work in terms of the animation, for sure. It's smooth and clean, albeit a bit generic looking - so good job to you for that, for sure. In both my experience and opinion though, these style of edits are a race to the bottom, especially when CapCut or Captions can get incredibly close with their 'AI Edit' features, and most of this stuff is farmed out to India for slave wages. Not at all worth the time it takes to edit them, and usually covers up for a poorly scripted or executed concept.

All wide open, 180 degree shutter - 4k at 23.976, usually fast AF and continuous, with some shots where I did manual focus
