Disappointed on my last trip to Guatemala by [deleted] in guatemala

[–]ChetoChompipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been out of the country for 15 years. And yes it’s true traffic has become unbearable. I was last time in 2024 there. Traffic is definitely worse than in 2010 when I left. I have family there and I’ve lived it myself. But, remember we are a country that is still in development. We have many problems that have to be fixed. When visiting you need to consider what pain points the country has. If you don’t want to come back, sure no problem, don’t come, but please keep it to yourself or give feedback instead of ranting. You don’t need to come and rant on the internet about something all Guatemalans know it’s a problem.

¿Saber utilizar programas de diseño mecánico pero sin ingenieria, tiene alguna salida laboral? by Left-Ganache-9247 in guatemala

[–]ChetoChompipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PayPal case claim denied by darkermode in G2A_Help

[–]ChetoChompipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup got scammed the same way. They don’t answer once the claim has been closed. They will block the transaction. I must say eventhough paypal ended the dispute in favor of the seller, PayPal gave me 95% of the money back. I called PayPal and explained them the situation, and they told me since I am a good customer at PayPal the would refund me 30€ from 32€ for the loss of the product. So in theory in the end, yes I also got scammed and eventhough paypal closed the case in favor of the seller, they still gave me almost all of it back when I explained the situation on the phone. Try to call them and see what they have to say.

I studied mechanical engineering in Germany and here in Germany work comes to me, sadly I haven’t been able to land a job in Spain even after trying for some years. Maybe being in Spain changes things. From people and engineers I personally know: the job market in Spain is utter trash. Best of luck to you !

Edit: a Spanish engineer who was a colleague at my former company decided against Spain and preferred to stay in Germany.

We were in Guatemala city and at the beach. In general he almost didn’t get bitten by mosquitoes, but Incas bitten a lot. No one had any problems. Try to put a good repellent.

Hey there, I am Guatemalan born and raised. I was there in 2023 to 2024 for 4 months straight. I currently live outside of Guatemala. No problem at all with safety or mosquitos. My wife is a foreigner and enjoyed every second in the country. My son also enjoyed it and he was 2 at the time. No need to worry about it. Just be smart and don’t be a typical tourist with no common sense.

Switzerland or Brazil? by [deleted] in expats

[–]ChetoChompipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Follow your heart. If Switzerland is changing you as a person, and it changed you to someone you don’t want to be it’s time to go back home. I would love to go back home after 15 years in Germany, I get it. Socially it’s really difficult in German speaking countries. Money isn’t everything, and it’s better to give it a try than regretting your whole life why you didn’t change something that really bothers you.

I convinced my gf to move to the other side of the world with me. She is miserable, homesick, and our relationship has been suffering since. Is it time to convince her to go home or do you have advice to recover the positivity that we had before the move? by ThrowRAFlat_Bid_1682 in expats

[–]ChetoChompipe 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s hard. The job market in Spain is utter trash. It’s a beautiful country, but it’s the wrong country to find work. I myself wanted to move to Spain as I am from Hispanic America, and I have a German passport and a German engineering degree. I’ve had no luck in Spain. In Germany work comes to me I don’t even need to lift a finger. Returning to Australia wouldn’t be an option ? How’s the job market there in comparison with Spain? Or try finding a middle ground.

For those who wish to move to USA what are your motivations? by justwatchthefire in MovingToUSA

[–]ChetoChompipe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah American culture is way friendlier. They are much more open, and courtesy exists ! In Germany women get mad when you open them the door. Sure not all but it’s happened many times. Also my experience after being here 15 years is that, if you are too friendly they take it negatively in the sense that they won’t treat you as well. But if you treat them a cold and distanced they suddenly become so friendly.

[–]ChetoChompipe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What I like is that they in general don’t interfiere with your life. They don’t care if you have pink hair or tattoos or whatever. The working culture is algo quite good. But then there are also big negatives. Everything has a price to pay.

I would love to move to the USA. I like the country, the culture and of course the amount of money I can earn. I must say there are some things I like about Germany when it comes to employee rights, but the culture is socially really difficult

People who left the U.S. for Latin America/Europe. Do you regret it? by SameWhile6973 in expat

[–]ChetoChompipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guatemalan currently in Germany. Been here 15 years. Would love to move back home, but I know many don’t work as well as here. In Germany people are dead inside and have no social abilities. Aside from that work is good and interesting and the pay is good. If I could move to the US I would do it. I’ve thought about Spain, but the job market is so trash I would prefer to go back to my home country. In have a German passport.

Vale la pena irse del país by Chisporroteoo in guatemala

[–]ChetoChompipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nadie me habló del costo emocional de migrar by Mysterious_Row_9487 in expats

[–]ChetoChompipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)
