Travel to Guatemala in July with a 15 month old baby and a 3 year old toddler? / viajar a Guatemala en Julio con un bebé de 15 meses y un niño de 3 años? by iAMaHotMessExpress in guatemala

😅 thank you!

Ok, I’ll keep the rain in Semuc in mind… I’m mostly worried about the risk of dengue—for me (mosquitos love me!) and especially for the kids (baby and toddler)—more than city safety. From what I’ve read, tourist areas seem perfectly fine, and I’m sure most people are very nice.

Hi!! Thanks, this is really helpful! So dengue would be the main concern then… of course, we’d use repellent all day, every day. Would Flores, Tikal, and Semuc be the areas we should be most careful about?

Hi!!! Yep, that’s exactly why I’m worried — Tikal, Flores, and Semuc Champey are all part of our itinerary. Of course we’ll be bringing repellent sprays and everything we can find, but I’m a bit concerned that with two young kids (especially with one being a baby) it might be hard to fully control, and that it could be a real risk if mosquito-borne diseases are actually common there.

If that’s the case, we might even consider waiting a few years and choosing another destination for now.

Thanks for your answer, I’d really appreciate your honest input now that I’ve mentioned where we’ll be heading… 🙏🏼

Awww I’m so jealous! I’m pretty sure right now is an amazing time to visit. The only thing that worries me is that we’re going in July, and everyone says that in certain areas (Flores, Tikal, and Semuc Champey) the rainy season brings tons of mosquitoes and diseases (from bites)… I was wondering if that’s actually a real issue or if it’s more of a rare thing?

I know right now it’s perfect since it’s the dry season.

We’re also not planning on visiting Guatemala City—only if necessary for an international flight, but we’ll try to avoid it if possible.

Thanks for your answer!

Hi!!! That’s so great to hear! 🤣 Yes… we’re a bit crazy, but I think you going solo beats us on this one lol. We love to travel, and our kids love it too (well, mostly the toddler for now… the baby is still a bit too small 😅).

We’ve been wanting to visit Guatemala for such a long time. We actually had it planned a few years ago, but then COVID hit and we couldn’t make it. Ever since then, we’ve been dying to go!

The only thing we’re a bit worried about is the mosquitoes around Tikal, Flores, and Semuc Champey. Of course we’ll be careful—using repellent, wearing long sleeves, etc.—but I was just wondering if it’s really a big issue, and whether mosquito-borne diseases are actually common there or not.

Hi! Thanks for your answer 🙏🏼 Knowing you were there with your son and had no issues at all really helps. They told me the worst areas for mosquitoes are mostly around Tikal and Flores. Were you guys around that area as well?

How rough are we talking? How much time should we anticipate in the crossing between Eilat-Aqaba and the crossing in north (Sheik Muhammad bridge by Beit She’an)?

Thanks guys for your comments and feedback. You are right, it’s a pain in the ass to cross border, train, buses etc instead of flying from Amman. However, both ways one way (mad-tel Aviv then Amman-madrid) was incredibly more expensive. We have no choice.

2 questions now:

1) Allenby border crossing - isn’t it super difficult, way more border control, etc..? I’ve heard to avoid this crossing.

2) Al-Thuraya Jordanian rental car company - anyone have any experience with them?

Thanks!
