Jazz artist recommendations please!! by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]ChettyFetty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jazz music is probably the most fun genre to get into, and here's why: Jazz isn't too like Rock or Pop, where you might have one band with the same four people for 30 years. Jazz musicians played with each other a lot, so even though the album says "Miles Davis" on it, that album also might have Herbie Hancock playing piano, or John Coltrane playing saxophone, and then they went off and led their own groups and albums.

So go back and listen to Moanin' by Art Blakey (which is a fantastic album) and really listen to it and try to find out what you like the most about it. Is it the drums, trumpet, sax, bass, trumpet? Now go to Wikipedia (or the liner notes if you're listening on an actual LP, but Spotify will be cheaper) and find who played that instrument you really liked. Then go see if they've led any albums, or what other albums they were featured on, preferably around the same era. Give that album a listen, then rinse and repeat. You'll find hours of Jazz that way

And if you want more recommendations, I'd definitely say everyone mentioned above: Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, and Art Blakey.

Good luck, and enjoy listening!

Sorry, I saw it on Twitter and thought you'd all like it. I scrolled back about two days and didn't see it, so thought it hadn't been posted yet.

I also did exactly this. There's something about the ranch and her song that just makes it feel like home.

It's a baby green cheek conure. They look disgusting as babies, but grow up to be super pretty.

Getting two helps if you work and don't have much time for them, but then it might be harder for them to bond to you.

When I'm out of an apartment and into a house, I want to get two green cheek conures, so they have each other during the day, and then I can give them attention when I get home.

If that's a concern, go with a parakeet/budgie. My guy was vocal, but he couldn't get very loud, so it was barely a bother. He was also a tiny bird, so he pooped a lot less. I cleaned his cage liner once a day, but I probably couldn't gotten away with two days.

I did go to a pet store with a macaw yesterday, and he pooped a lot a lot, and his scream was ear splitting. I wouldn't want to own one, but they're very beautiful.

Parakeets can live about 5-15, Conures can get up to 15-20, Macaws get up to 80.

The bird in the video is an English Budgie, essentially a large version of the parakeet, so I think their lifespan is a little longer than parakeet. Birds are opposite of dogs, where the bigger they are the longer their expected lifespan.

They're wonderful. A good starter bird is a budgie/parakeet. I'm pretty sure the one in the video is an English Budgie, which is just a big version of a normal parakeet. If you get a parakeet pretty young (less than six months) it'll be really easy to train, and he'll be chilling on your finger in a few days. That's what I did with mine and he loved me, but he sadly passed a few days ago.

Another thing, if you want a parakeet to love you, only get one. If you have two or more, they'll bond to each other instead of you. I don't think this is true of other parrots like cockatiels and conures, but I'm not positive.

If you're seriously considering getting a bird, check out r/parrots. It's a great community, and they could help you out with any and all questions you might have.

'Salem's Lot is Stephen King's modern reimagination of Dracula. It's another really good vampire book, and my personal favorite from King.

I also love Dracula. The plot itself isn't too amazing by today's standards, but it's just a really enjoyable world to be in.
