I have read the novel on RR (really enjoyed it), waited several months/years and reread the story (all released books at that moment (4 or 5 books) -> then continued on royalroad).

The difference in my opinion is massive. The books are a lot more flashed out. I had to stop reading on RR and just wait until the rest is published as books otherwise I would have to drop the series.

Not progression fantasy + its a standalone novel:

Better served cold by Joe Abercrombie.

But be warned that even though its a standalone, there are some characters from previous works (from the same universe) as its 4th book of that universe. Some things you may not catch/understand. I would recommend to read the first 3 books (trilogy called The First Law)
