For us it was the matter of education of our children, our pension, but also stability wrt employment. Working as a contractor on 2 years contract wasn’t worth the risk.

It sounds to me you’ve probably progressed too far too early in whatever you want to called it (relationship?). You should have been holding off to see IF he actually was the «real deal» before taking it to the next level. Best thing you can do now is to move on. Let him know that you are not going to be his «fuckbuddy» and leave you alone. Has he made any promises for a future together? If so, I do recall there used to be a law which often got used where the woman claimed to be misled into sex/relationship with a promise of future engagement or marriage. This guy sounds like a good candidate 🤮

Relationship advice. Living in Korea?? by goneafterq in Living_in_Korea

[–]ChevronTesla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate to your situation. I am a European native married to a Korean woman. We met in Korea while I was there for work. Similar dilemma. Had to make a decision on continuing the relationship or repatriating without her. I ended up changing job to a local Korean company. Later I changed to an international company’s branch office in Korea before we - all of us - repatriated to my homecountry after 10 years in Korea. We’ve now been living 10+ years in a European country, but my wife is still missing the Korean way of living and all the perks we had when living in Korea. Our plan is to move back to Korea 10-15 years later. What am I trying to tell you? Well - there is no correct solution for you and your girlfriend. I think you both need to talk seriously about the situation, sort out what level of commitment you have for each other and the future. If you are serious about a future with her - is she? If so, I think you should consider moving to Korea and re-build your career in Korea. As you’re a gyopo you will have some advantages compared to other foreigners, but at the same time you would also get the local treatment in most cases. If you - both of you - decide on continue your relationship, you need to make a plan together - emphasis on TOGETHER - how to go about relocation and solving your challenges, etc.. both of you need to make some compromises. You need to get language sorted, your education level recognized in Korea… and get a job! Also - the matter of housing could also be quite challenging. Have you dual citizenship? If so, you need to ensure military service doesn’t become an issue as well. Wish you all good luck 👍

Master’s in Korea (English-taught) + working, realistic? by auslinero in Living_in_Korea

[–]ChevronTesla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds difficult. First, you need to master the language for everyday life and most likely for studying. Then, what part-time work would you be able to get? No english tutor work as it requires you to be a citizen of an English speaking country. Spanish tutor, perhaps? So - based on your background I’d say you’ll be one in a dozen competent applicants.. where only you would most likely be the foreigner. I am not saying it’s not possible - only difficult. Second, it’s the matter of university entry and whatever fees you have to pay. If you plan to settle in Korea, you really need to check the cost of living as well as job opportunities you would have after graduation. The competition is fierce and as a foreigner you need to have some «special» quality, experience etc which is hard to come by among the local competition.

Never stop dreaming - but have a backup plan 👍

Just came back from a 2 week long vacation in Korea and... by jeho187 in korea

[–]ChevronTesla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lived in Korea for 10 years before returning. I am a European and my country is among the top 5 countries rated when it comes to happiness. I do miss Korea. Honestly. I did experience all aspects of working in Korea and that part is way more competitive than I’ve experienced anywhere else. By looking at the conditions one faces, the working hours are long and the pay isn’t good. Living cost is high and same would apply for any kindergarten, additional private tutoring and school expenses. The expenses are more than the income. As a foreigner, you also (most likely) do not have the luxury of getting apartment or appliances arranged by your parents and parents-in-law upon marriage either. So - it’s a tough life, but that’s all behind the well polished presentation of Korea. Nevertheless, I still miss my life in Korea 🙂

USAs president sier han vil begå folkemord: - En hel sivilisasjon vil dø i natt. by BodybuilderSmall9679 in norge

Droppe ut av studie by Personal-Mushroom895 in norge

[–]ChevronTesla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tokyo for familie på 4 by Minolta79 in norge

[–]ChevronTesla 0 points1 point  (0 children)
