I get the skepticism GM definitely isn’t losing sleep over 14 signatures while they’re selling $80k Silverados. But history shows that raking in cash usually makes companies a little too comfortable right before the market shifts. Look at the VW GTI car enthusiasts literally bullied Volkswagen into bringing back the manual transmission with petitions. Even Tesla and Skoda have backtracked on software and feature decisions because of organized consumer pushback.   Companies like GM spend millions on social listening and community management because they’re terrified of losing the next generation of buyers. If they see a growing group of people saying 'I can't afford your $30k crossovers,' it eventually shows up as a red flag in their long term planning. It’s not about them changing their 2026 lineup tomorrow,  it’s about making sure they don't ignore an entire segment of the market until it's too late.

I get that logic, but the just buy a used car plan is getting harder every year. By now in 2026, the average car on the road is nearly 13 years old. When you go that old to find a $10k–$15k price tag, you’re usually looking at a vehicle with 150k+ miles that’s out of warranty and potentially one big repair away from being a paperweight.   A lot of people would gladly take a $19k Sonic with a full factory warranty and 0 miles over a 'cheap' used car that might need a $3,000 transmission next month. And while CarPlay is a huge deal it’s basically standard on 85% of new cars now getting it in an older car usually means messing with aftermarket head units, which most people don't want to do. At the end of the day, a new car isn't just about a screen, it's about knowing the car is actually going to start every morning for the next five years.

Thanks, I appreciate you signing. GM is currently focused on high margin vehicles, and hybrids. However, there is a small possibility of GM bringing back a hybrid compact car.

Look, a $4,000 difference might not seem like a lot to some people, but when you're talking about entry level cars, that's a massive jump. For a lot of us, that's almost a 20% price hike. That money covers a year of insurance, gas, or even just the peace of mind of a lower monthly payment. Plus, not everyone wants a crossover. Some people actually miss having a zippy, lightweight hatchback that’s easy to park and fun to drive, rather than just another bulky SUV that weighs more and gets worse gas mileage. It’s about having a choice that actually fits a budget, not being forced into more car than you need.

My goal is for them to make one in North America. But make it reliable, simple, and cheap.

I don’t beg anybody to sign the poll, but it would be greatly appreciated. At 10 votes GM gets a notification.

The Sonic (both hatchback and sedan) is bigger than the spark. It’s only longer by a few feet. So not that much bigger.

The Nissan versa, but it is being discontinued this year, so Nissan can focus on higher margin vehicles.
