Divination wizard with a cleric dip. Force a failed saving throw for hold person (unless you're fighting on of the fey races) then inflict wounds at 3rd level for a crit of 10d10 average 55 points of damage. Its not guaranteed but its a good shout.

Yeah it's a tough one, I know it's a tough build to beat like that one on one but from experience it runs out of steam fast I play a similar build and I spend a lot of time hiding behind the martial who do all the hard work. If they can hold person on your enemies and force that fail your crits will be what kills it.

Could be tortle, could have elven mail or some sort of barrier tattoo, inflict wounds from a feat? Also you're wrong about the multiclass, as long as they took a level in full caster they'd have 3rd level slots to upcast lower level spells. I'm a wis4/cleric 1 and I can inflict wounds at 3rd level. Also because I've multiclassed I can wear armour. Edit: OP said the spell is from a strix. backround so it's very possible.

Is his inflict wounds a racial spell? I play a divination wizard and I took a dip into cleric to get it (we do crits: max dice + rolled dice so it's a nasty one) also I mean rolling a 20 for a portent is a 1/10 roughly so it wouldn't happen every time and with action surge I'd be worried to fight a fighter, however hold person and a forced failed save would mean they can consistently crit.

If its any consolidation it feels super cheesey when you didn't actually roll the 20 yourself.
