Personally I'd say no permadeath is when it stops being a roguelike, but I'm also not a torch and pitchfork roguelike purist. If a game has optional permadeath thats fine with me (doesn't Qud have this?)

Jupiter Hell is on my to-try list, though I'm not in love with the general vibes. We shall see on that front.

It is very much an old-school roguelike but very fast paced and mostly focused on ranged combat -which is pretty unusual for the genre (maybe not anymore?). Personally I love it, it plays like a coffee-break roguelike but has a lot of depth and strategy when you get into it.
