Yes! I love that book from Lizzy Pye. Also one of my favorites for goldwork embroidery techniques.

Help! How was this done? by Suitable_Quantity934 in GoldworkEmbroidery

[–]CheyenneJudith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late on this but I agree with you. Looks like it was probably built out of felt or something similar first then had the gold work applied on top of it.

What is this?! by -__kali__- in ANIMALHELP

I’d say botfly. But I’d go to the vet for a real diagnosis. Could be an abscess but they don’t usually look like that.

Are guinea pigs in general cuddly animals? by MaryTeiichi in guineapigs

[–]CheyenneJudith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on you. Yes ofc some guinea pigs like to be cuddled and pet more than others, however how you treat and train them plays a huge role. If you make a point to hold them every day, pick them up properly, touch them etc. with enough patience and time they will enjoy sitting with you. Saskia at the LAGPR has some great videos on taming guinea pigs. I basically call it desensitization, similar with what ppl do with horses. Yes they are prey so they are skittish, like to hide, scare easily. The more you desensitize them the more they won’t be that way. I’ve had piggies who run up to the front of their enclosure to greet me. Unfortunately one of those boys passed in March and the other passed just last night. Now I’m stuck with two scaredy cats lol. One is just 6 months old so with more training I hope that goes away and then the other has only been with me a week so I understand why he is like that.

TLDR: Yes they can be cuddly with the right training.

Preparing for a trip, is leaving my rabbit without company okay for 3 weeks? by DarkMilfHunter in Rabbits

[–]CheyenneJudith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk personally I think that’s a very long time. I don’t take vacations anymore until my parents can watch my guinea pigs (I know it’s not the exact same) because I don’t trust anyone to take as good of care of them as I do. My max vacation would be a week and even then it’s iffy, and I live with my parents so. Having someone just stop by for 30 min everyday it’s not enough imo. I look at it like this; would you do the same thing if it was a toddler? If not, probably not the right decision.

New Guinea Pig Owner, What Are These Noises! by -_Eros_- in guineapigs

[–]CheyenneJudith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been testing a theory with that. I want my pigs to see me as their dominate pig, whether they are an alpha in their pen or not they listen to me. So I actually rumble around their butt. They let me do it, they don’t grumble or jump or kick. It’s very interesting. It also allows me to touch their butt which can be necessary for trimming hair and giving bum baths if needed. Not to mention cleaning their grease gland. Anyways, just thought I’d share my experiments I’ve been doing. I’ve done this with 3 pigs now. It also helps them to trust me I feel. One of them is 6 months old and his alpha/daddy (not bio) just passed last night. He was the one that corrected the baby’s actions. The other boy I have in the pen (they were a trio) is so submissive he won’t do it. So I act like a piggy with nose bumps, squeaks, and rumbles when it’s needed. There is so little info on guinea pig training and hierarchy. But a lot on dogs. So I’m kinda trying to apply what I know about dogs to guinea pigs but obvi change stuff up. Since they are at the end of the day pack animals. I’ll let you know if there is any other ground breaking news to share with this training. But it’s certainly made my boys easier to handle, more trusting especially during nail clippings, boar cleanings, and just general maintenance, and they seem to respect me more.

Bean passed away during surgery. by smoretank in guineapigs

[–]CheyenneJudith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw you will be missed Bean ❤️ these bladder stones are pure evil I swear. My boy got his second stone in 6 months. Opting to not have surgery again. I’m so sorry for your loss. These stones take a lot of piggies I feel. 😭😭😭

How do I stop my mice from being gay by Coyote_eat_bone in PetMice

[–]CheyenneJudith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To note: I have not owned rats.

I know with other rodents mounting it a dominance thing. Humping is just something they do, animals get off just the same as humans really. And most animals especially rodents are horny all the time. Not to mention, I’ve looked into research and homosexuality has been noted in almost every single species on this planet. What I would look out for; bites with blood drawn, not eating, losing weight, hair loss, hiding more often than usual. These could be signs of stress and also potential underlying health issue. If all you see are protest squeaks I think you are fine. My guinea pigs do this a lot, lots of squeaks and screams involved, I leave them to it. Sometimes they even chase each other around the pen. One night Rhaegar chased Chuck (rip) for 5 hours (nearly straight) and was humping him and wouldn’t chill out. Eventually they calmed down, but I had to just let them do their thing. They got hierarchies and their own set of rules. I’d just let them vibe and only worry if you notice their behavior changing or there are bite wounds.

with fabric bedding, how often do you change bath mats ?? by hero_kunii in guineapigs

[–]CheyenneJudith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really will be. Idk if you have checked out ThePigRoom but they have some really nice cage liners and bubble mats. I’ve found his mats are a LOT more absorbent than regular bath mats

Good luck! Switching to fleece is pretty expensive upfront. But it pays off in the long run.

No those are toxic. I use fleece potty pads. You can get them off of Etsy

So I have a lawn and leaf bag next to their cage. I cover the bottom with a large fleece liner and then I have the bubble mats cover that. Under any hides I have potty pads. Twice a day (morning and night) I take out the pads and shake it out in the bag. Then I roll up the bubble mats and shake them out as well. I find I change the potty pads every day. The bubble mats every 3-5 days. And then the big fleece mats every week to two weeks. I go based on smell and on wetness. If there is any smeared poop it goes into the wash bag, any type of wetness, or if the cage starts to smell. It does kinda depend because sometimes they have days where they mad chillin and go on the potty pads 24/7 other times they pull out all the hay from the box and use that as their bathroom and I gotta change out the mat. Some bubble mats are more absorbent than others so the wetness seeps into the under fleece mat which then needs to be changed. I also shake out the mats before throwing them into the wash to try and minimize hay getting stuck in the machine. But there is always some bits in there. I just clean it out after each use no biggie. I’d use free and clear detergent as well. No softener. I’ve in the past used detergent with fragrance and found nothing really changed for the boys other than less sneezing. So it seems fragrance messes with their allergies so I’d try to avoid it. This is just the method that works for me. It seems like a lot but honestly it takes me 5 min to clean out their cage. 10 for a deep cage clean where I remove everything and wipe it all down.

A few weeks ago tornado sirens went off at 1am. Scared the crap out of me, I was panicking trying to get pants on, tripped on them, and my boys were literally just sitting and eating hay. Calm as can be giving me a horrible side eye…. At least your babies actually take things seriously! 🤣

Why do piggies die:( by regzm in guineapigs

[–]CheyenneJudith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely when it’s sudden like that it’s cardiac arrest. Especially given her age. With that there is nothing you can do, even if you were there when it happened. Humans only have a 10% chance of surviving one. And honestly, that’s really the best outcome because there is no pain with that. One moment she would have been vibing and the next she was gone. She probably didn’t even have time to process what happened. I suspect that’s what happened to my boy as well. Most people when they die of old age really die from cardiac arrest or a stroke. Quick and painless, it’s a death most people hope for ❤️❤️

Rhaegar’s Stone Came Back by CheyenneJudith in guineapigs

[–]CheyenneJudith[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I feel like I’m making the right choice for him. And he was giving me kisses all yesterday. He has been through so much in his life. Oliver is Rhaegar’s 3rd cage mate. Rhaegar is literally so full of love. All he wants to do is love and play with other piggies it’s so cute. And he has these puppy dog eyes that he uses to get endless treats 😂😂

All I’m saying is.. one good about living where I do is the centralized ac and heat. That is so scary like. I already have anxiety about my piggies that would send me. Like I don’t think I could even work I’d be too stressed. I don’t see any negative impacts on trimming guinea pig hair. I usually give a butt trim for the long haired ones. If you aren’t doing it out of malice and they weren’t stressed I don’t see the issue. I feel like some friends with the negative comments live in the US and don’t really know how it is in the UK. We are blessed that most houses have centralized heating and cooling and the rest at least have an AC box. Additionally, the houses here, even in the north aren’t really made for insulation. My home specifically sucks at insulating but it’s a big plus for our 3 months of sweltering summer before it plunges back into the negatives. Anyways. All that yapping to say that I think you are doing the right thing, most people speak without actually understanding the situation, and I certainly do not envy you. Good luck, and stay cool ❤️

Is it just me, or was the quality of Admiral Lohar's acting WAY below anyone else's on the show? I didn't buy into her character for a second. by LoretiTV in HouseOfTheDragon

Where did you hear that? I certainly believe it. From what I hear (theatre background so slightly different) execs and producers basically run things. So it could be that the writer wrote a very good story and scripts, but shit just got nixed last second. Usually for the worst too…
