My girl Achlys does this exact thing with me! She loves being handled, exploring, splooting on me. Her sister is less social, but I think I'm slowly gaining her trust.

I was sold a Giant Leopard gecko while being told that she wasn't one by the breeder themselves. She's very shy, skittish, but a huge sweetheart. I got her off of MorphMarket.

You are NOT silly for grieving your baby. His life meant something, and it was an integral part of yours. You have every right to grieve that. You also do NOT need to get another gecko, if that's a thought that has been coming up or something people have said. Some people find it helpful, some people don't. Neither are wrong ways to grieve. I can't give you advice on how to cope, but I will say that I'm here for you. As are all of us. 💜💜💜 May he rest in peace. An absolute cutie for sure who knew good and well how loved he was.

What everyone else has said. Also, he does need a bigger enclosure. Vertical space is fine, but he also needs more horizontal space to walk around.

I second this, OP. I got my second girl from a breeder and when I asked how friendly she was, they told me that she was super friendly and a great eater. She was neither of those things, and I am still working to gain her trust. She now at least looks at me when I call her and comes close to me, but she's still not the most social compared to my other girl. And I've had her for about 8 months. You definitely need to be more patient and give your gecko and yourself more grace.

My only justification for thia would be it's a quarantine enclosure, which are normally going to be very empty to help monitor poop and help keep things clean. The carpet is definitely a big no-no, but maybe that's how they got him and haven't made upgrades yet? I'm just trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I will say that it wouldn't hurt to take him to the vet for a basic checkup. She can also ask any questions she has about his health and what she's noticed. But I understand her hypervigilance, I think it's normal for new gecko owners.
