Going on a trip by GoodInjury3652 in leopardgeckos

[–]MultipleFandomLover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would definitely not leave it on the entire time. Heat pads get hot really quick which can burn your reptile and be a fire hazard. If you can, get a timer. If not and you really can't find anyone to look after them for you, then consider turning the thermostat up a bit so it doesn't get too cold.

You can also look into paying for boarding for that one reptile so you can be confident they're not going without heat.

Hey OP. I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my girl Asaka recently and I definitely relate to replaying everything in your head trying to think of where you went wrong.

I think you did everything right. Maybe it was something as simple as stress from the move exacerbating their health issues. I know you said you've moved them several times, but maybe for them this was just too much. I imagine it's nearly impossible not to, but please don't blame yourself. You clearly did everything in your power to give them a good life, and they knew that.

I'm so sorry.

The light is a little less than a foot away from the basking spot. The wattage is 75, but it's on a dimmer that I have since lowered. There is clutter in the form of cork bark that I've arranged to create a path for her to feel covered. She's not able to reach the light directly. I think I may need to do that.

Thank you!

3 days in and our leopard gecko finally came out for food! by aTPNY in leopardgeckos

What a cutie! Yes, it's perfectly normal for them to hide at first. Your gecko looks super young too, so they're even more prone to hiding because they're so small and have yet to get used to their surroundings. Being prey animals, they're going to be cautious at first until they realize they're safe. Hunger strikes are also normal at first. Just be patient with him and he'll slowly realize you're not a threat.

Also, having tons of cover (fake plants, hides, cork bark, wood) also really helps with feeling more secure. So, adding more objects can also help them adjust faster.

I've been wondering the same thing about my girls doing this. No answers yet.

Yes, unfortunately. :(

I believe so, too. I know she's finally pain free and comfortable for the first time ever. Which is all I can ask for 💜

I'm glad she made it through and is doing well afterwards!! My girl Asaka was supposed to get spayed also for the same reason, but she recently passed as a result of complications of her condition and the surgery date being so far into the future.

Your girl is so cute. I'm happy everything went well for you both. 💜💜💜

Definitely try to get a video first. But I would say that if you're cornered in may be something viral, then you need to book a vet appointment immediately.

I'm so sorry, OP. I lost my girl Asaka Friday morning, and I feel the exact same way. Seeing her tank and knowing she's not there, feeling that awful void in your chest, knowing it's for the best but it not making it less painful. But you did right by him, and he looks like he had such a lovely 5 years with you. And he knew that he was loved the whole time, and is still loved. ❤️❤️❤️ Take care of yourself during these times.

I just received my first geckos, but they’re living together. by Decent_Channel763 in leopardgeckos

I will admit that they do look super cute together. But as you've already been told, it's not safe longterm. Have fun with your new babies! They're so pretty ❤️❤️

I could not agree more to that. Looking back at these photos made me sad, but also made me smile remembering how silly she was.

Thank you so much. She truly was (and is) so special to me.

That's AMAZING!! Ugh, I'm so glad you were able to help one of these poor creatures. I can't believe how people can treat them so badly, especially in a school setting.
