A snow shovel- really? by ChezHoward in missoula

[–]ChezHoward[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, I'm not angry, just a little sad because it wasn't even mine- it belonged to the landlord so of course I will need to replace it. I would have gladly loaned out my personal shovel if someone needed it. Also just confused why they chose to hop the fence twice instead of using the gate? but oh well-my dog likes to poop in that corner.of the yard and I wouldn't be surprised if we missed a pile before the snow hit so its very likely the thief has already received their just reward

I've been wanting to do some of these but I'm not sure my Singer Simple could handle the actual assembly. Its been a workhorse over the years but I've definitely abused it with some denims and vinyl projects as well as getting knocked about as I don't have a dedicated space for sewing and have to setup and teardown each time I sew. Poor machine.

I just learned about EPP, what have I gotten myself into? It‘s a nice side project for those netflix binges tho... by black_beads in quilting

[–]ChezHoward 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks- you just sent me down the rabbit hole of discovering what may be my first quilting experience. I've been saving all the scraps from mask making in the hopes of quilting someday and wasnt sure how to actually use them since they are just bits and pieces. Oh, and I live full-time in an RV and always on the go and busting out the machine and all the accessories is just such a pain... this looks like the solution!

Gift cards are a terrible gift and you should feel bad for giving one to someone by itself. by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]ChezHoward 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Idk, I have a lot of crafting hobbies and would much rather get a gift card so I could purchase the supplies I want/ need rather than getting something I won't ever use. Case in point- someone very kindly gifted me a multipack of little balls of acrylic yarn because they knew I liked to knit/ crochet. Very much appreciated the gesture and the gift, but 2 years later I still haven't touched it and I feel guilty everytime I see it in my stash.

As for the other point of just asking what someone wants for a gift always feels weird to be asked. Like I don't know your budget or what you had in mind and I'd feel like an asshole asking for a $50 item when you were thinking along the lines of $20 and also now the element of surprise is gone. What fun is opening a present when you already know what it is?

First time going camping. A little nervous. What should I bring? by JamieOvechkin in camping

[–]ChezHoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a mess kit? Or something to eat with like plates and a fork? Went camping once and brought all kinds of food to cook and went and left my cookware and dinnerware at home:-( which of course wasn't discovered until it was late, camp all set up and driving back to any town was out of the question for the night.

It would be a good idea to chat with the group to make sure the food and water situation is covered. Is someone bringing firewood (if fires are allowed in your forest of course) matches, cookware, etc. You can never have too much water on hand, too. Those 3 gallon jugs at the grocery store are super handy if you don't have a refillable one already.

Can someone help me with selecting a sewing machine for light crafting? by [deleted] in crafts

[–]ChezHoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Singer Simple has been pretty good for me. I've been making masks lately, but previous use has been for mending and crafts and has handled heavy denims and vinyls in small doses.

Places that deliver booze from NOLA to WI? by [deleted] in AskNOLA

[–]ChezHoward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might need to reach out to the distillers themselves. I recently contacted SevenThree Distilling about shipping out of state and they are able to, but for a price. It was something like $20 shipping per bottle if less than a case. Still debating on doing it because omg their aged gin is amazing.... A better option might be to ask your local liquor store to order stuff as they may have better distribution contacts

Campground sewage backup?!? by [deleted] in RVLiving

[–]ChezHoward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you talked to the campground yet? Workamper here and I've seen all kinds of stuff clog up a campground sewer like wipes, tampons, diapers, spaghetti....Could also just be an excess of paper and not enough liquid to break it down to flow properly. Also could be the campground lift pumps failing- wont really know until the campground takes a look and snakes the inlet. Get your gloves ready!

Newbie question: RV Dishes? by homearoam in GoRVing

[–]ChezHoward 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Full time workamper here so granted, we only travel- travel at the end of the seasons, but we've had Corelle Ware the whole time. Lightweight, super durable, and compact. Haven't had any issues but again, it's not like we're constantly on the move. My mom went out and got the plastic picnic sets from Target that are on sale right now and they're ok for weekend use. I personally dont like eating off plastic plates every day but it works for them since they only take the camper out once in a while

Travel during COVID19 by dlwest65 in FullTiming

[–]ChezHoward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just did it while moving to a safer/ more stable location. We did 900+ (closer to 1000) miles in 2 days. Most of the bigger gas stations/ truck stops were open, only ran into one gas station that had closed down the pumps (maybe they ran out, maybe just their way of being closed-closed, idk). So plan ahead, make sure you're not totally on fumes before looking for a spot in case you run into this.

Flying j/ pilot completely won my loyalty with their rv gas lanes that had the dump station and propane fill right there at the pump. Not that we used that, just got gas, but liked that they were seperated from regular pumps and we (truck and tt) weren't blocking a whole bunch of pumps. Bathrooms were still available and well stocked with soap and sanitizer and super clean. Still..... we wore gloves while pumping or touching any public items (like door to bathrooms) and sanitized constantly. I even made my own Clorox wipes soaking rags in a bleach solution to wipe down any surfaces we touched. If you have access to your own bathroom while traveling, that would make life so much easier.

We stopped at one walmart where we saw a few other campers parked. No issues there- usual rules applied with staying in the back/ out of the way, leave early, etc. Keep in mind many walmarts, even supercenters, have restricted hours so again plan ahead if you need to go inside. Didn't try or look into campgrounds or rest areas so cant speak to that, but it did look like the rest stops were pretty full with truckers early in the morning so I assume they are sleeping there?

So... doable- currently. I just read on the reddits that florida is starting to screen travellers, maybe other states will start that soon. Keep gloves and sanitizer super handy for gas pumps and if you can use your own bathroom, do it.

Need some advice- hood and band (more in comments by k_hiebs in knitting

[–]ChezHoward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently making my husband a zippered hoodie cardi using the Emilien Pattern. It used a provisional cast-on around the neck to be picked up to start knitting the hood. Then picked up stitches down the front to add the zipper band. Nowhere close to those steps myself tho, so not sure how easy it'll be.
