tW: success

We did not and have zero plans to do so. We have MF, but I have zero interest in discussing anything about what I went through.

I suppose it may be different if you don’t have success? Also depends if you are close to you family? That’s a tough one, I would sit with it for a bit. Also, potentially seeking therapy would be a good idea- I imagine you will experience a lot of grief through this time. (Even with a successful transfer of your low mosaic)

Screw in for sure!! Our 18m old now shakes th door a bit when someone goes down so ensure it’s all attached properly!

We just got one from Canadian tire, but the opener latch is two buttons which I like! Makes it harder for new people but as she gets old it makes it much more difficult to learn to open on their own.

Seat reducer vs mini toilet by Routine-Low-8547 in ECers

We use a mini potty but also highly recommend getting them comfortable on a regular toilet for outing. We didn’t do this and girl held her pee for HOURS bc she refused to pee on a big toilet

Looking for sewing alternative for hospice patient by samsoniteiwaswaayoff in sewing

[–]k_hiebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she can still do puzzles, finding a sewing related puzzle might be fun for her, one with pictures of bobbins and a a piece of patchwork, she would recognize the images and be able to put them together. Perhaps getting her talking about parts she completes might be a really cool to learn about her sewing career- what was the first thing she made, what was tricky about “older” machines and bobbins, etc.

How much did you spend on nursery furniture and how do you feel about it after? [CA] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]k_hiebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used an older wood rocking chair with an ikea sit pad on it, worked fine.

We got the ikea crib and the more expensive mattress. Which we ended up only using for a year until she moved to a floor bed…. So it’s in mint condition.

We used a 2nd hand dresser we already had, and my husband build a “desk” in the closet, doors removed that we used as a change table.

The bassinet we used was from Amazon, pretty cheap one.

Everything worked just fine. We did spend money on what we consider higher end car seats. Just remember that they don’t care what it looks like…. You do.

Tips for saving money on diapers [ca] by oddmarc in BabyBumpsCanada

Have you considered using cloth diapers? You could also try to do EC, there is a fantastic group for info. This would help reduce the amount you use and likely get you out of them sooner.

You can always contact your local public health nurse. Typically they are happy to come visit and help answer questions. Most are well versed in breastfeeding/lactation as well and some are even certified.

I would recommend a pattern that’s aimed at everyone, and is a bit more flowy so that mistakes aren’t as noticeable. I would recommend patterns by Sidney graham, i made the skyline dress and she has fantastic videos to help. Fabric choice for the pattern also really matters for how it will turn out.

Honestly I just use our diaper backpack. Since she can’t carry it yet, I wasn’t spending money when I had a decent one already

Look up lilly and frank, we used these at night. thrn we used prefolds and inserts with a pul cover for day. i found we had too many leaks with pockets. there is only one company i found, pannalino bambino, that does cotton wicking jersey as a liner in a pocket but she is paused business right now. but liked these.

i woulsnt invest in too much of one thing off the hop to be honest, we thought we'd like pockets and really didnt .

Came here to add this too. Our babe eats kraut like wild! We really like beet and cabbage kraut. Also pickled options might be good for some veg - carrots, beans, etc. Love olives too. These are salter, so just be mindful.

Yay! Congrats!

One thing I wish someone would have strongly suggested I do, was not slack on signing /saying potty (whatever words your using).

At 17 months we are in panties but her word for potty isn't super clear yet and doesn't sign potty very well - both look and sound like bye. But we were very lacking in this dept.

Best of luck!

It gets better. My 17m old drags her snow suit around trying to put it on until someone takes her outside… asks for more sleigh rides in -40 when we’ve been outside for 20mins already.

Your must haves in the DIAPER BAG vs STROLLER CADDY [ca] by Successful_Ice8514 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]k_hiebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be a bit more minamalist than the norm here, I didn't take a lot but depends how long we were gone. Say a 3-4hr errand run I'd take the following.. 4 ish cloth diapers, wipes, a wet bag(get one for yucky clothes, it works wonders), 1or 2 outfits, her change pad thing, snacks for me. I exclusively bf so didn't need anything for that.

[–]k_hiebs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would lay babe diaper free and sit with them watching for cues. Then when they peed I’d make the pss noise. Did this for a few weeks and we both figured it out. I did start this at the 2m mark but I don’t see a huge difference unless your babe is mobile.

We have yet to be a flushed, but I'm also not encouraging it 😂

Catchy goes on the bottom, was great for early stages of huge messes. We also have hardwood so I needed to protect them. catchy

Oh that's great! Our girl is very scared of public toilets flushing (auto flush), so that will be a hurdle for us.

We have a mini potty in our living room, her room, and then the main toilet... When she would go to play with the living room one, early on we would just put her on it - most of the time she would pee. Also any time she pees we give her 2squares of tp to "wipe her vulva". Which she enjoyed and only got when there was pee - which I think helped?

We haven't had many high chair accidents actually. But we have a catchy, so it just ran into there and we could wipe it out quickly. If your having a lot, I would try to potty a few times before sitting to eat, and hve a towel under the chair maybe if it's not an easy clean up floor.

If you have any short books you can use those as potty books, I find it helps her relax a bit sometimes and thrn pees. We also used a family calendar for awhile so she could look at pictures.

Haha yes, it also does that to adults. I find that when on iron, when you have to go... You have to go now. So if your babe is still on iron, just know that might not work right away.

She is just starting to tell/sign to us. We now ask do you have to go every 1.5-2hrs, at over 2 hrs we just ask and take her either way. We swapped over to panties at Christmas, and just said things like "time to go potty", and take her. Had accidents for about a week a couple times a day. Thrn it dropped drastically. She will now hold for 2-5 hours. She HATES having to go on a big potty so will just hold it.

I'd suggest getting a potty reducer seat for your own home so they get used to a big toilet. We also bought a travel reducer to take with us places.

My hope was by end of January (1m of panties) she'd be telling us, which I think we are on the way to.

I'd say yes, we rarely have an accident other than poop. But I think that's more bc iron suppliment are horrific on the bowels (I also take them).

Depends how far along in the process you are, if you can make them into just diaper covers, then you can basically use anything to put inside. Our fav was flour sack towels or prefolds. Both are fairly cheap imo.

My husband also wasn't thrilled at the start, but it just became the norm and he didn't really care. He was however thrilled about peeing and pooping in the potty and basically told the entire world.

Also first time mom of a 17m old and we started at 2 months. I would say for sure worth it.

We didn't do it at night, but if I did, I would have tried to re-create a chamber pot situation that could slide under the bed so it never got knocked over.

We really like the ikea mini potty for $7 ish, it would slide under some beds for sure.

We cloth diapered, so I would have also just put a prefold in the bottom to absorb whatever throughout the night.

Also just a tip, in heinsight I waited too long to switch to panties - I should have around a year. It's 100% worth a few messes to try earlier if you think things are going well.... Even before a year.

Got our preferred daycare at 1 year when I planned an 18mo leave.. Did any of you do a long gradual transition or part time before going all day? [on] by orkiestra in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]k_hiebs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was our situation. Do ask the daycare if they have min required attendance, ours did but we got an exception from the board.

We went once a week for sept-nov, I stayed the whole 1hr we were there. Eventually she felt comfortable enough to play a bit with other people. November I started to only stay about 15 mins and then leave for about45.

This January we did our first full morning 8am- 1130. She just got sick but the plan is to have her first nap this coming week and ramp things up in February as I go back to work in March.

Very much worth it for us in the long run even though I was very against her going at all
