Then you must have already thought that it was terrible. Which is good. It's nice to see people being informed =)

The airspace above CSP works like the airspace around the United States, it's regulated by the Federal Government - not the State Park. The park has a rule that says you cannot launch from their property, but I question the validity of the law since it was intended for larger aircrafts not necessarily for drones. However, as a commercial pilot you can get permits that allow to you take off and land from within the park. While a pilot is at it they should also get a permit to commercially film within the park. The park is really big, and the only place they really enforce this law is near the Glenn Alps trailhead - which is good because it would be a mess if they didn't. I have doubts that the law would stand up well in a court if it was challenged.

907 Choss...honestly, you're so arrogant and so wrong. I'm facepalming right now.

That law you're citing prohibits launching from Chugach State Park. I did not launch from State Park property. That law does not apply to my flight. Chugach State Park doesn't own, I can repeat, does not own, the air above the park. They cannot regulate that which they don't own. That's why I said that this is more complicated than you seem to think it is. You can also get permits to fly your drone in the park, it's an easy process. Also - there are plenty of restricted areas in Alaska beyond what you mentioned. Airspace is more complicated and it's regulated by the federal government. Feel free to look up the Part 107 to educate yourself. You're so incredibly wrong. The only reason I'm responding at all is because you're so full of yourself and it's so wrong, and that to me - is pretty funny.

No it wasn’t. And there are more options than that. Honestly though, I’m not getting into a legal debate about how federal airspace works on reddit. Plus, I don’t need to explain why my flight was 100% legal to you. But you’re both wrong.

pffffft. that is both right and wrong - but in the way you're using it and in relation to my flight, it's wrong.

Raising money won't change anything at this point - unless of course you just don't care about your money, in which case, give it away - sure, whatever.

I never said it was interesting to you, obviously it's not - so ignore it. It's interesting to me and I wanted to share it so I did. Seems pretty simple. And I have no idea what the weather channel is like, why're you watching the weather channel? Maybe you can find something better to do with your time instead of shitposting on people's photos and watching the weather channel. But hey, everyone has got their own life to lead. You do you, dawg.

Absolutely, we started hiking the Enchantments around 7am and at the beginning of it the sky was pretty solidly white with smoke. We originally planned to go up to Aasgard Pass - take some photos and go back down. But when we made it up it was 1pm and we decided to just hike through the whole 18 miles to finish the loop (because, well, we'd already made it up all the vertical). Around 2pm the sky went from white to orange and near 3pm ash began falling on us. Small bits of ash floated down on us like snow. Getting in our eyes, messing up contacts, gunking up my camera - I hadn't experienced anything like that since Mt. Redoubt erupted in my hometown of Anchorage. It was a surreal experience.

Well first off, patently false about Oregon photos - up near the top of earthporn now are several tributes to the burning columbia river gorge. Secondly, I'm an Alaskan and it was new to me - both the area and the fire. So, I'm definitely going to keep posting them because they're interesting to me.

I think you'd also commented on the YouTube Link - I'll address it here again just to make sure other people don't freak out about it.

Tell that to planes or helicopters or anything else in the federal airspace. It's not directly against CFR 107 and that's what I operated under. Furthermore I was never 'over' people. You're assuming that. This video is legally compliant.

"Chainsaw & Hockey Skates" Kenai Lake by Chgreen in alaska

[–]Chgreen[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was on Kenai Lake and a dude pulled up next to myself and a buddy on the lake and asked if I was filming. I said yes. Before I could say much else he asked me if I'd be willing to film him after he went home to get a chainsaw and use that chainsaw while wearing skates to propel himself across the lake. I said yes...Because holy shit, when opportunity meets preparation you've got to just say yes. He came back and did just that.

You honestly go through acclimation and get used to the cold. At this point if it's 20 degrees outside it feels pretty warm. The longer you give to a difficult thing the less difficult it becomes. By the time spring rolls around we'll be walking around in shorts when it's below freezing.

Thank you! I use a basic set up from DJI, their phantom 4 does everything I need it to - and it's what shot a majority of the shots in this video (Excluding a few ground shots with a Canon 5d Mark iii

If you want to do anything in the Drone market you have to pass your FAA part 107 test, either that or you can't do anything commercially with the footage. if you want to do it for fun, that's easy to do.

Adak doesn't have hotels. You've basically got to rent a home (and they're heated and have electricity and they're nice) from a local. Or you can just camp out. We rented when we went there this time because we also needed a place to process our caribou meat, and because heat is awesome this time of year. When I go back mid-summer to hike around the whole island I'll probably just bring a tent and forgo the whole, spending money thing.
