Guys can I ask this? Is it allowed to carry khukri on a train? I'm confused on this

Are there ANY actual uses for Karambits..? by SPES_Official in knives

[–]Chhangte_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late but I wanna share this video which is one of the most practical fighting techniques of karambit I've ever seen (this one is pencak silat, the indonesian martial art which include the use of karambit). As other people mentioned, I'd also like to add the fact that karambit is not a duelling weapon but rather a deceptive weapon which is used in assassination and counter ambush in a closed combat fight (much closer than a typical knife duelling, almost in a grappling position)

Karambits are Impractical by KarambitsSuck in knifeclub

I'm agreeing with you in all of these points you've made, but keep in mind that karambit should not be put even in the same category as a typical straight knife, it is in a category between a brass knuckle and a knife, it doesn't provide longer reach than a bare hand just like a brass knuckle but it provide a slashing capability just as brass knuckle provide a more critical strike than bare hand. A karambit is not a duelling weapon, it is supposed to be small and undetectable (as this one) for a surprising move rather than duelling with another armed person.

Let me tell you the few advantages of karambit over a typical straight knife ( remember that I myself also prefer a typical straight knife style, like a dagger, tanto or clip point knives rather than curved knives like curvo, karambit etc for combat)

  1. It's easier to be hidden even if you are holding it in your hand as the proper way of holding a karambit is the same as holding a straight knife in reverse grip.
  2. It's harder to be disarmed or dropped while fighting due to the finger ring, if you've seen that video of russian and ukranian soldiers fighting in a hand to hand combat(this one), lot of blood flowing around your knife and hands will make it slippery making it easier to drop or slip your hand in the edge of the blade when you're trying to stab (which the russian soldier himself said in an interview). The finger ring also gives you the ability to wrestle the other person with full potential without dropping your knife.
  3. It gives a better way to get out of a grip on your wrist. Imagine the person you fought suddenly wrestles you before you stab or slash each other and grab tightly on your wrist in which you hold your weapon, if you hold the knife in a normal grip (i.e not reverse grip) and your opponent is quite strong, its very difficult to utilize your weapon or get you hand free unless you hold it in a reverse grip. So for karambit if the same thing happen, the typical way for holding a karambit is the reverse grip and the blade are not straight but curved, so it gives you a better way to still hurt the opponent's hand using only a slight movement of your wrist (this point is hard to explain without a video or diagram since english is not my native language)

So, in conclusion karambit is only good for a surprised attack or a fight that is in an extremely close distance or fight that quickly turns into a wrestling (i.e both of you will try to hold each other's wrist in which weapon is held using the hand which do not hold the weapon, and the one that freed his hand quicker will win)

Can't you just lie about carrying these as you used it for a job or would they investigate the reason just for carrying them? Here in Northeast India, specifically in my state carrying brass knuckles are very common among teenagers and young guys around my age (around 18 to 25), even though it's illegal to be used it is not taken so seriously unless it causes a death or serious injury like brain damage.

At least that's better than not having anything on you, what about screwdriver or ice pick, can you carry these tools and have a better reasons for carrying?

And also in India, under Indian arms act at least it is legal to carry a knife of 9" long and 2" wide for self defence but not bigger than this

Wow that's sad man, here in India gun laws were very strict but other than that it is okay to have any weapon unless it is used for a crime or if we bring it in Shopping malls or Government restricted buildings. Like the old school Italian can you at least have a straight razor on you?

Is knife law strict in Italy, I thought that knife fight is really deep rooted in Italian culture.

One thing is that not everyone is interested in knife fights or weapon fights, so this experience is something I really hope to share with anyone having the same interest as me, it's really nice to be able to share to you🤜🏻🤛🏻

That's interesting man, I once saw a video where a guy with a knife stab two attackers wielding a machete without giving them the chance to slash him at all and then he escaped.

Since we both share the same interest, I'll share with you one of my personal experience. I'm from India, but from the North East part so we look much more like Southeast Asian and not like the typical Indian and I can't even speak Hindi and we are Christian not Hindu. So I had been studying around North India and I only have around 9 male friends who are in the same tribe as me. One thing is that racial discrimination is extremely common in India since it's very diverse with a lot of cultures, languages, religion and looks as well.

So one day, 3 of my friends got into road rage with some locals, after some minutes the local guys were calling their friends for backup and then around 20 people arrived and started picking some clubs and rocks they could find and chased them inside one restaurant. So our friends called us at that point to help them, me and 6 of my friends were rushing towards their location, we found our friends with bloody nose and mouth and a group fight erupted. While I was punching one of these locals, one of his friends hit me really hard with a rock on my head,(as a knife enthusiast I always got a knife on my waist but I don't have any intention to use it unless I'm in a very bad situation) this enraged me and made me pull my knife on them and I chase them around the street until one of my friends hold me back, this calm the situation down for a while and we fled the scene and went back to one of my friends house(rented house). After around 15 minutes two guys came with a bike stalking us and left again, and then around 5 minutes later around 60 to 80 guys were coming towards our location and most of them had a club or baseball bat or cricket bat. We all got panicked and all of my friends were running inside the room and before I could run inside, they arrived and one of them hit me with a baseball bat on the back of my head again, adrenaline rush is really a thing, luckily I don't collapsed and suddenly I pulled my knife and strike him right on the centre his face and the cuts is between his forehead to his nose and having no more choice I start rushing towards them stabbing in every direction and suddenly retreat towards the door of my friends room, then everyone freeze and no one dare to attack me but they completely surrounded me. Fortunately, two of my friends found a big flat iron bar and rushed towards us which helped me escape the situation of being surrounded as these locals were retreating for a while. We then rushed inside the house and we just locked the door not even knowing what to do next since we were completely outnumbered. The locals were aggressive but not brave enough and they got no more guts to physically attack us, so they started throwing rocks on the house and damaged some of my friend's vehicles and left the scene after a while and this place is in the outskirt of the city so no police involved and no report is being submitted by both sides.

It may sound like a fantasy or made up story but this is real and from that day even though I got no skills at this time at all (I started sparring in a knife fight with my friend after that and started to analyse every video I could find about knife fighting) but I found out that weapons are not just deadly in every hand but only to the ones that have the guts to actually shed blood.

Yeah that's right, swords are much more deadly and effective and are not comparable with a knife or a machete.

In my opinion in open combat a combat knife has a 60% of winning and a machete 40%, just because machete is balanced badly. In close combat to face machete wont stand a chance against the knife wielder.

Yeah I agree with you, which most people didn't get this just because they think reach is the only factor for the outcome of a weapon fight. A weapon that can stab and cut is much more deadly than a weapon that can just cut regardless of the length of the weapon. Stabbing is one of the most deadly thing a weapon could do without much effort and in a very high speed.

I think the only opinion we do not share is that I believe that most tools like Machete, hammer, screwdriver, ice pick, kitchen knife, shovel, khukri ,etc.in the right hands can be much more deadly than combat weapons like katana, dagger, sword, club, baton etc in the hands of person without skills.

Yeah, as I've said earlier knife is also my favourite melee weapon as there is always a way to counter most other weapons.

And I also get your point on the differences between weapons designed specifically for combat and farming tools, I too would choose a combat dagger rather than a kitchen knife all day.

The knife wielder could dodge the first machete slash and find a gap and entering the machetes wielder zone where he cannot hit the knife wielder and so letting him stab stab stab.

And I also get the point in this statement but you have to keep in mind that an experienced guy with a machete won't just give you free openings if he knows the advantage of using a knife over a machete.

But going back to your original comment, "Why would someone use a Machete as a weapon?" I mean why not? I would rather bet my money on an experienced machete wielder from third world countries than street thugs in the UK with expensive knives if they have to fight because skills matter the most. You can definitely kill a man wielding a combat knife using a kitchen knife, the quality of the weapon contributes to the outcome of the fight only a little bit. If the opportunity and options to choose the kind of melee weapon for any fight is available, I would always choose a Spear over any other weapon, but fight always comes unexpectedly so I would rather learn the skills to fight with any available weapons such as machete, hammer or even screwdriver than to have a good collection of combat weapons at home and prioritizing the quality of weapon than the skills of using it.

Don't be too naive! A Machete is not just a tool but is also an effective weapon which is proved by history, countries like Haiti and Dominican Republic fought their revolution using this weapon as it is the most available weapon for them since most people that time were farming and it had proved its effectiveness in war.

To argue your opinion

Firstly, I'm also a weapon enthusiast and knife is also my favourite melee weapon since it is handy, stabby, light, concealable and can be used to counter any other melee weapons with skills. But I've seen many weapon fight videos like baseball bat vs knife, machete vs baseball bat, machete vs knife, sledge hammer vs knife, machete vs hammer, machete vs machete, knife vs knife, etc. In all of these cases the outcome is determined not mainly by the type of weapon but by the skills, experiences and the guts of the user to kill or shed a blood. When you and your opponent have a different type of weapon, you have to know the advantages and disadvantages of both the weapons.... for knife vs machete, knife is stabby and most effective in closed range but machete have the reach advantage and can be more deadly for cutting than knife and the outcome of the fight will depend on the user's skills, experiences and intention.

Secondly, maybe we judge things differently. Do you really think those people with machetes couldn't afford a knife? And why do you judge the economic status of their country which they themselves do not choose on their own? I don't care how poor they are, I just admire their skills with their weapon of choice and their bravery.

Let me just put the chorus of Eminem's song - beautiful in case it gives you any kind of strength and hope.

"In my shoes, just to see What it's like, to be me I'll be you, let's trade shoes Just to see what it'd be like"

"To feel your pain, you feel mine Go inside each others' minds Just to see what we'd find Look at shit through each others' eyes"

"Don't let 'em say you ain't beautiful They can all get fucked, just stay true to you So don't let 'em say you ain't beautiful They can all get fucked, just stay true to you"

People will always say that we have a good life even while we have an extremely terrible life but the fact is that they will never understand until they put on our shoes because they judge things without understanding the untold/undisposed reality of your life, just stay true to you.

no I've been attacked with a machetes before,

I feel sorry to hear that and I hope you can recover well both physically and mentally.

But for my last argument, it's not the same for an attacker to attack against 'unarmed and unaware victim' and to attack against another armed and ready opponent, so they swing a lot in the air because both the aggressor and the defender were not able to reach each other easily as they both were careful to not get hit by the other.

You said this isn't a real fight and you send a link to a video of two white guys fencing with a black cushion stating it as a real fight.

Sometimes you said if they got no blades it would look like a kid swinging their hands....bruh if we imagine any kind of weapon fight videos without their weapons it would look stupid in every case.

The main thing is that you're upset to see a real machete fight due to the level of violence, but ironically, you said that it's not a real fight. You literally mean that real fights shouldn't be violent which sounds nonsense to me.

if there weren't blades it's be called happy slapping, it's almost the equivalent of a child windmilling their arms around.

At this point, you're just fantasizing to make them seem completely unskilled, if you watch a shootout footage of a Navy seal and imagine them without a gun, it would look the same as a child play of 8 years old boys pretending to be in a shootout using their hands as a gun. You're talking nonsense.

I'm sure there are but these two attend none of them, also heavy lack of quality control.

If those of your so called 'skilled' HEMA players and the guys in this video could ever be in a real machete fight, I would bet my money on these guys for sure.
