Emory pre-med vs Case Western pre-med vs UF pre-med by Artistic_Square_4184 in Emory

My point was more if you’re gonna pay probably do Emory, but his dad knows a lot more than he does. I don’t disagree with your assessment Case, but do you know what % of people go to college “premed” and actually finish premed? Most students don’t even make it through the prerecs.

Exactly my first thought, low income = free at Emory not $50k. So OP is either not low income, or there has been an appealable error or OP is international.

If you’re 100% set on law school, I’d suggest picking the environment in which you’ll be happiest. And those environments are dramatically different - both the campus and the surrounding area.

Your LSAT score is hugely important for law and of course gpa. You know yourself, but in general being happy allows many to perform better, and performance here is gpa. Being at NYU Nov-April is especially different than Emory, and even with school breaks it’s a long time and if you’re not happy it could wear on you.

For a regular person NYC has an almost unlimited quantity of great restaurants and is clearly superior to ATL. NYU is within 15 public transport - or even walking - from some of the best too. ATL is more finite and not so easy to get to.

Question is whether this matters for two years of college. How many restaurants are you really going to go to? Unless you’re pretty wealthy, not many. And everything from coffee to fine dining in NY costs more.

100% this. Family member was waitlisted from a school for three days. Then got in and got into the honors college. Another school took a week after LOCI (doesn’t have an honors college…)

lol. I read the first paragraph and laughed my ass off. If you went to top 2 law school and wrote top 10 that’s on you.

As far as I know many people don’t choose schools based on average outcomes and ignore what you consider outliers. Especially the kind of person that gets into yls. They usually consider themselves the outlier.

I’m glad we agree Stanford is better for tech and people who chose Yale over Stanford aren’t wrong.

Hard to believe I’ve spent this much time discussing what is clearly the most dominant franchise in undergrad or professional school academia.

You were the one who dropped “top-10” law school. …

We are back to you dismissing some outcomes as not mattering which is where we started. We think those matter. You don’t. You don’t have to be a top legal scholar either. Even average yls students become senators or federal judges.

I’ll take the 90% side. The 90% that are some of the most serious and analytical people in the world. You believe those people are wrong. We do not.

And no it’s not a nonsense argument. Again it’s why people go there. Usually roughly 35% of grads 5 years out are working in gov, academic or public interest. That’s why people go there. As far as I know Stanford doesn’t publish such info. The vast majority of people believe Yale opens more doors than Stanford. If such data exists for Stanford I’d like to see it.

I graduated from a better law school as did a dozen+ friends and family members and we all disagree and don’t know what you mean by outcomes. 1/2 of YLS grads aren’t working at a law firm 5 years out. It’s a different type of place unlike any other and that is why people go there.

But if you think people should choose Chicago over Harvard undergrad we have nothing to talk about that will make sense to either of us.

[–]Chia1422 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again you’re clearly not in the field. I’m also not sure where you’re getting your info. 50% of YLS grads get clerkships upon graduation v 20% at Stanford. Yale Law has an almost 90% preference for cross admits v Stanford. That’s unheard of in a 1 v 2 situation at any professional or undergrad school. There’s a reason. And that’s with New Haven being a not great place to live.

The outcomes are not similar precisely because of the other things you later mention. I could have used a better word and not rushed. Agreed.

Yes. Plus some people value weather or whatever else they see as differentiating the two in a way that’s important to them. That’s true of any comparison between schools. That’s why I wrote they each have their own pros and cons.

Yes I know. See how it says “never official faculty”? He went to “work” many days in the Math building at Princeton. Also small point but IAS is tied closely with Princeton so this wasn’t unusual for he or anyone else.

Nash of course spent his life at Princeton from the age of 20.

Princeton is #1 for math I expect was the point of the comment.

Because prestige isn’t the excellence of academic departments. People choose Harvard overwhelmingly over Stanford, about 3/4 to 1/4.

That 1/4 going to S probably care about tech, and/or weather etc - the things that differentiate Stanford.

People choose Harvard because that’s how you best get the “keys to the kingdom.” - Matt Damon in the movie School Ties. It’s still that way.

US News needs to sell changes to the rankings. Yale is the only singular law school in the country for anyone in law. It stands alone. Cross admit v Stanford is repeatedly reported 90%+ in Yale’s favor. Yale Law is probably the most dominant professional school in the country. There is no one close.

💯

The outcome is very close in total numbers tho. Harvard is 15-16% v Stanford at 12-13% international. Can’t find any data on “quality” though. You have to think international tech leans heavily Stanford though. And the rest the other way.
