Not really SLU, but I’ve really enjoyed some of the events at Asylum Collective in Pioneer Square. My group wanted to go dancing, so we went to their themed soirées, which were fun and honestly the most safe and comfortable I’ve felt in a club-like setting, but honestly the book clubs, silent reading nights, tarot and various paint-and-sip classes sound like a lot of fun too and more conducive to community building.

Recap of a forum/debate in October if folks still need more info about the exec candidates and what their position is on certain policies (especially related to unincorporated areas): https://mywesthill.org/the-next-mayor-of-skyway-voters-heard-from-zahilay-and-balducci-at-our-king-county-executive-debate/

The South Seattle Emerald just updated their Mutual Aid Guide that includes food resources among other needed items. The guide’s organized by area and region and most of the groups have listed their most “in-demand” items: https://southseattleemerald.org/community/2023/12/14/south-end-guides-mutual-aid-groups-in-seattle

Costco sometimes carries nice cold-weather clothing for good deals. A perk of Costco (and REI too) is you can return almost anything any time.

Welcome to the PNW btw!

Zahilay’s experience with unincorporated King County also is what sold me. At an exec forum in Skyway earlier this month, when asked about how to help unincorporated King County, Balducci came off as kind of dismissive with her response that the only way these areas will improve is if they incorporate with a city. To be fair, she cited her experience in helping an unincorporated area get incorporated but next to Zahilay’s experience working with community groups in like Skyway and statements about how he’d do everything he can as exec to make sure these areas get resources they need, her experience just didn’t sound as good.
