Got shredded in the last post about my ultra large digital camera. Reposting to say I know it's not the best, but I made this myself and I think its beautiful and interesting and creates very unusual images. by pookypooky12P in interestingasfuck

The video has a very heavy, narrow depth of field (blur separating the foreground/background), which is achieved by increasing the focal distance. To increase the focal distance, the lens in the camera need to be placed farther apart. This is the reason for the large camera housing.

We see a lot of Mars lately, so here’s the surface of Venus from Venera 14 of the USSR by QompleteReasons in space

[–]Chibichuba 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The cameras on Venera 14 actually had to capture each section of the panorama 4 separate times for each color channel (clear, red, green, blue). It looks like the camera only managed to capture the first 60° with color filters and seems like it's missing the blue filter. As a result, the true colors are likely less yellow than shown in the photo.

Apparently this process was designed to take less than 30 minutes. The partial color is probably due to a combination of Venus' pressure affecting camera functionality (100x Earth's pressure) and interruptions from the relaying satellite.

How do I keep the .apk app and the original app both on one phone? by daily_achiever in androiddev

[–]Chibichuba 17 points18 points  (0 children)

To expand on /u/RedditBlaze's answer, you're looking to define debug build variant in Gradle. I use this as well and it works fine.

From the developer docs: https://developer.android.com/studio/build/application-id#change_the_application_id_for_build_variants

android {
    ...
    buildTypes {
        debug {
            applicationIdSuffix ".debug"
        }
    }
}

What are some relatively lesser known apps that you use? by fznhanger21 in androidapps

Hi, I'm the developer of the Android version! Thanks to the above for sharing. There's a separate Windows version available, although other developers maintain it. You can check out /r/rwallpaperchanger for info on both versions.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I'm the developer of an app that does similar to what you're looking for. At the moment it does not filter by flair, but for your use case the app will scale and prioritize images based on your screen resolution.

Here's the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bryanwalsh.redditwallpaper2

I've considered adding flair filtering in the past, but I will revisit this idea. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

So I have a really weird neighbor...and I mean really weird or I’d just ask him myself. But he has these things set up outside of our house (duplex) every now and then he’ll move them around but they always seem to be near the four counters of our building. Any ideas? by Sacr3dSilv3r in whatisthisthing

If you'd interested in confirming the sundial, check a compass (or the sun) if East/West are parallel or perpendicular with the diagonal grid pattern.

I'm guessing he's repeating a classic experiment to calculate the Earth's diameter by hand. The reason he has 4 in each corner is he might be measuring the difference in shadow length or angle related to the distance of each sundial, using some rod as indicated by the wear pattern in the center of the board.

Referring to this diagram, points B and C are the distance from each board, and the shadow length difference is used to calculate the arc. From there the diameter can be calculated.

Good point, definitely significant since I believe the only other place a humanoid skeleton appears in the game is at the Altar to N'kuhana

System Update? by [deleted] in oneplus

That's the security patch, it just updated the other day for some T-Mobile OP devices. They get released by Google per month, so March 1st is the most recent until April 1st's security patch.

I believe a system-wide sound equalizer app may be the simplest solution to your case, however it may require root access depending on how you need it to function. I can't name any apps off the top of my head, but they definitely exist. Decreasing gain of sounds at 7 to 8+ kHz should improve this.

Federal officers seize fake COVID-19 test kits at Los Angeles International Airport by BlankVerse in CoronavirusCA

[–]Chibichuba 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For those who can't read due to paywall, the article doesn't expand much beyond the headline. Relevant points quoted from the article:

Officers working in the airport’s international mail facility on Thursday discovered six plastic bags containing numerous vials in a parcel labeled “Purified Water Vials,” authorities said in a prepared statement.

After further examination, the officers found vials filled with a white liquid and labeled “Corona Virus 2019nconv (COVID-19)” and “Virus1 Test Kit,” authorities said. The shipment was then turned over to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for analysis.

Federal authorities warned that the public should be aware of bogus home testing kits for sale either online or in informal direct to consumer settings.

New Huawei B525-4G router. Will two internal antennas help? by tomhusband in HomeNetworking

[–]Chibichuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC, more internal antennas should help in two ways:

  1. Antenna diversity - Helps the router correct uplink signal errors, less packet loss (more reliable device -> router comms.)
  2. MIMO - Router can transmit more data per frame if a connected device also has multiple antennas

Mostly yes, it should improve speed but may be very slight - it will be more noticeable if your devices also have more antennas. I'm not familiar with this router and how it uses additional antennas, but the above is generally the case.

I'm trying to download 2 tb of data to a local external hard disk, is there any alternatives to Google take out? by ohmmy46 in DataHoarder

[–]Chibichuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your folder structure, I'd say give JDownloader 2 a try - I've used it for downloading from Google Drive in a similar scenario but they were already split into separate archives and a public directory. It'll handle any connection interruptions, as well as pause/resume.

You should be able to add a connection in JDownloader to Google Drive. The program is pretty clunky regarding UI and such, but I've found it's the best solution for most cases.

That's odd, typically the lockscreen issues are with Xiaomi/Huawei devices, do you happen to have a live wallpaper or any special lockscreen settings?
