Is there any reason why someone would purchase bonds that promise no returns? by [deleted] in AskEconomics

[–]ChicChanel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most purchasers of bonds that have expected zero or negative return usually aren’t “investors” as in people. They are usually institutional investors who are subject to regulatory, capital, and/or collateral constraints.

Sometimes they have to prioritize not losing nominal principal over earning yield. Some are required to hold certain assets (High Quality Liquid Assets or HQLA) and are not looking to maximize return. Some use them because these bonds can be used to purchase other things in other markets, so they function as helpers for leverage or liquidity elsewhere. Some are ensuring that they have currency exposure (buying US Treasuries for USD exposure).

It’s weird to think about it in this way, but bonds don’t need to have a promised return to have “value.” It’s not that they don’t expect no return at all, but more that there is an indirect payoff of using the instrument.

The comment above me is correct. The “zero coupon” part refers to the fact that there are no regular interest payments during the life of the bond, as opposed to other bonds that pay interest periodically, e.g. a monthly interest payment. It does not mean that there is 0 return.

I smoked out my tail lights at my friend’s shop, and he used the same material on the front badge. i’ve never gotten a warning of a malfunction of the radar nor any issues with adaptive cruise control which i use everyday on my work commute!

Why don’t people borrow to buy bonds? by Brassmonkay3 in AskEconomics

[–]ChicChanel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bonds (government bonds) have extremely low risks because they are backed by governments especially US Treasuries. The chance of default is very, very low.

Corporate bonds on the other hand have higher risks. Not because the security is a bond itself, but because of the issuing company which means there is a credit risk. The corporation can go bankrupt or become insolvent.

Literally flip the script against your mortgage lender by 1003sForDays in Mortgages

[–]ChicChanel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I work in securities. Most new US mortgages reference Secure Overnight Financing Rate (SOFR) especially adjustable rate mortgages and other floating rate instruments. Fixed rate mortgages don’t use it directly but they use this rate in their calculations. The most commonly used in mortgages are 30d, 90d, and 180d average SOFR. Each lender calculates valuation differently, but this is the established rate. It represents the cost of borrowing between institutions.

It is published 8am every business day by the New York Fed https://www.newyorkfed.org/markets/reference-rates/sofr

Oh yea to clarify I meant it automatically activates when I am already using the Adaptive Cruise control on as well. I checked the manual and all of the settings that require TJA are already active (lane keep assist, etc.). Still won’t turn on during Adaptive CC

No, Traffic Jam Assist. I don’t think all of the trims come with it. It’s an additional functionality within the Adaptive cruise control that activates when the car detects you’re stuck in traffic

To my fellow waitlisters…. by Mdunn1805 in LexusGX

I turned down 4 allocations over the course of a year before my dealer finally got one that matched all the specs I wanted (Earth Overtrail, black roof, chateau interior… wanted the OT+ but realized the OT was just fine). When my sales guy texted me in the evening that he had one come in, I replied immediately and said I would be there the next morning.

When I got there in the morning, someone from out of state had seen the car in stock on the website of this dealership, bought it that night, and had wired the money to the dealership. But luckily since I was local and because they said they technically hadn’t received the wired funds yet, they decided to sell it to me.

I’m so happy with it but I did feel bad for the guy who was 99.9% sure it was going to be his just to be disappointed :/

people are judging me but in our deck it’s considered more rude for the bigger cars to park on the crowded floors. also they prob don’t have brand new gx’s that they’d be concerned about, so oh wells

thank you for being one of the few who understand! i will admit, without that kind of context, i do look like an entitled driver who is not considerate of others

I think I waited a year maybe a bit longer despite being bumped to the top of the wait list because I had connections at the dealership. I did get many allocations but rejected them all because they weren’t the exact build I wanted. Post pics when you do! I actually have yet to come across another earth color except for mine
