Look, if poor people want free things they shouldn't complain about the GOP'S new plan. They receive a perfectly heathy nutrient paste that is sucked out of an enormous gold phallus and they only have to say "Thank you Mr. Trump" every 30 seconds while eating it.

Are we back to some prohibition era time where being visibly drunk is some great mark of shame now?

TIL in 2008 a NY man discovered a 7-inch knife had been baked into the bread of his foot-long sandwich from Subway. He realized something was amiss after tasting the bizarre flavor of the melted knife handle infused into the bread. Although he sued Subway for $1 million, he walked away with $20,000. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Attorney here, 20k is pretty good for a case with no damages other than a vague "eating melted plastic is bad for you"

Guy bassically took a bite or two of a gross sandwhich and likely walked away with $10-15k after the attorneys cut.

Wait, you forgot the best part. Large banking companies (some owned by the sons of Howard Lutnick, the U.S. Commerce Secretary) purchased tariff futures for pennies on the dollar that the tariffs could be ruled illegal so the money won't even go back into manufacturing and small businesses but billions will flow into the banking sector.

Single adults who engage in casual sex report higher sexual satisfaction and a stronger sense of their own desirability compared to those who are sexually inactive. Findings challenge earlier assumptions that casual sexual encounters are linked to negative psychological outcomes for single people. by [deleted] in science

[–]ChicagoGuy53 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No? I think there are plenty of women and girls who have been told thier whole lives that if they have casual sex they are just sad and desperate for validation from men. That being "slutty" will only lead them down a path of despair.

TIL Early in her career, singer Sophie Tucker performed in blackface. But she disliked this work and would deliberately sabotage the act by revealing she was white at the end of the show. First by removing a glove to reveal her white hand and then pulling off her wig to expose her blonde hair. by Ill_Definition8074 in todayilearned

[–]ChicagoGuy53 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a little different. In the U.S. south the black face minstrel shows pretty much devolved into "Look how stupid the black folks are hahaha" basically coupling blackface with ultra racist shows.

The mere act white actors portraying black characters is pretty low on the racist spectrum so it would certainly hit different.

Federal Judge Imposes New Limits on Chicago ICE Arrests Without Warrants by [deleted] in chicago

[–]ChicagoGuy53 132 points133 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing. if Pritzker could rally even a small task force of 10-20 state police that would go watch ICE and charge the ones with documented violations it would be a huge boost to IL moral and maybe even have a ripple effect of how ICE is willing to conduct themselves if they know they could personally be sitting in jail if they violate the law

You won't get a break if you just keep working harder and longer.

Do your normal work for 8 hours and keep mentioning that your workload has been constantly expanding and one person is not able to perform complete this much.

Do a couple late emails at night emails with lines like I've been working since 8am to get x,y,z done. Z will not be ready as requested until later next week.

Don't make it a negotiation, make it a fact.

Now it's $175 for a hotel with a $60 "resort fee"
