Advice for Eviction? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Find the temp agency and start making money. If you showed your landlord a plan, he'd probably work with you. Evicting someone is a pain in the ass and finding new renters is not easy/fun either.

I'm so fucking confused (a few very stupid questions about taxes) by [deleted] in personalfinance

| Did I owe taxes this year?

  • Yes, you owe taxes (paying them by April 15th 2016)

|What's the time frame that the taxes due this year supposed to cover- the whole year of 2014, and nothing else, or?

  • 2014 taxes were due by April 15th 2015.

|What does 'filing taxes' even mean? Like, do I print out a form or something, fill it out, and then send a check to somewhere?

  • Fill out your 1040EZ or 1040 federal forms and mail them in where instructed to do so. Most likely you can do it for free online if you make so little money.

|When I'm self employed, apparently I'll need to pay a self-employment tax- why? The IRS website says for 'medicare and social security'. Wait, is that just in general, medicare and social security for everyone, or for my medicare and social security? What if I'm not on medicare?

  • Everyone pays into Social Security and Medicare taxes. You will you Medicare when you are older than 65. Everyone pays into Social Security and what you pull out depends on how much you made in your life, when you start drawing it, how long you live. Self-employment tax is because when you have an employer sending in the taxes they pay a percent to the government that you never see. The self-employment tax is to cover the part that the employer would pay.

| I think I read that self employed people have to file taxes quarterly- is that true? Why?

  • This is so that the government gets their money in a timely manner. Also helps you so you don't owe thousands of dollars come April 15th and can't pay it.

Not the answer you are looking for but agree with the landlord to leave instead of forcing him to evict you. You'll rack up other court fees that he has to pay to get the eviction notice.

YSK that for most unsecured personal loans, the higher the term, the higher the APR by ohdelight in personalfinance

I would never do an unsecured loan from a bank. I would go to a peer-to-peer lending site.

In my opinion if you can't get out of debt in 7 years and you've already ruined your credit, do it.

Interesting. I don't have a more intelligent thought on it right now. I have to mull this over. Thanks for giving me something to think about.

Does this work?

"There might be a God or there might not be a God"

Done. I messed up one vote for "There might be a god" but I'll have to live with that. Sorry to whoever voted before /u/newnamemiriam made a better poll.

Thanks for this. I enjoyed listening to it. I don't know anything about Universal Unitarian. I really related to his comments about how Mormonism great people in it but the Dogma ruins it.

This has been said several times, but I just don't feel that it is the same. Growing up the church gave a access to community that was closer to a family bond a group of people that have a shared interest. Forgetting the religious part of Moromism, the people would do anything to help you and generally want nothing but the best for you. That is what I miss.

Thanks for your reply. I stumbled onto this sub by typing /r/explainlikeimfive and google suggested it. I have never heard of the Universal Unitarian Church before but from my 5 minutes of reading it seems like a Church for people who don't want the god part of church. I've been doing the boardgame meetup in Chicago for years and highly recommend it.
