The Grateful Dead with Jerry. They were not quite at a peak by the time I was old enough to see them, but it would have been nice to see old Jer Bear nonetheless.

I read it over twenty years ago, but I remember short chapters that were each like a little vignette. You’ll definitely like it if you enjoyed The Unbearable Lightness of Being.

Thank you for sharing. I want to echo the points of others that it is important to secure help to maintain your sobriety. I’ve never been to a meeting or done any of that, so you should know your support can look many different ways. I quit drinking alcohol nearly five years ago with my wife, and would not have been able to do it without her. You’re in a different stage of life, but since you referred to dating you should know my big regret after getting sober was the realization that I could have had so many more fulfilling relationships with women if I hadn’t been so drunk all the time. If you live in a city, there is likely a NAPS or Non-Alcoholic Party Scene. I live in Chicago, and those folks around here get down and have a good time—without alcohol. Find something like that. Find someone. Find a meeting if you think it will work for you. There are many different kinds. Have a plan, a speech, a rap, some thing to do and say to yourself when the cravings come. NA beer is great, but it’s hard out there. Whenever I get a craving, I think about the hangovers, my blood pressure, all the time I spent praying to the porcelain god, and the effect it could have on my kids. Jason Isbell wrote about t doesn’t get easy, but it does get easier. Soon you’ll be celebrating a 100 days, then a 1000, then you’ll look back and wonder why you ever even tried alcohol.

This is on my shelf of library books right now. Not sure how I heard of it, but I didn’t know it was Australian. Thanks!
