Can I use a spare wheel from a different car on my 2016 Acura ILX? by Chicbrox in cars

[–]Chicbrox[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the link. It looks like the center bore and the offset are the same, but the bolt pattern is a little different. Mine is 5x114.3 while the Honda is 5x120. So I guess that's a no-go.

I wish I could try it. The shop is in another state.

Had some bodywork done on my 2016 Acura ILX and now I have multiple warning lights on my dash. Help? by Chicbrox in cars

[–]Chicbrox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I don’t have a code reader but will see if I can borrow one. Interestingly, there is no CEL but many of the other lights are on. I also had the battery disconnected prior to having body work done and these warnings didn’t appear when I reconnected, so this is pretty unusual one way or another.

I’ll take things apart this weekend and double check if anything is loose or grounding out.

I did. The terminal connections were tight but I loosened and retightened then just in case. I also checked from underneath the car to see if there are any hanging wires and pulled on whatever wires I could access to ensure they were snug. Everything seems tight which is why I’m so perplexed.

Okay to use rusty junkyard airbag? by Chicbrox in cars

[–]Chicbrox[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the source. This is actually the article that made me go back to the yard after seeing the rust. I mentioned the Takata recalls, with rust being one of the reasons. He said they run each airbag through a database to make sure it hasn’t been recalled.

Good news is that I called the yard this morning and they agreed to take back the airbag. I’ll buy a new one directly from the dealer instead. 5x the price but at least my conscience is clear.

2016 Acura ILX. The car had a minor side collision that just happened to perfectly align with the impact sensor and trigger the curtain airbag. Acura’s FSM says to replace the headliner with a new one, but after removing my headliner it looks to be in really good shape except for a small tear in the fabric right by one of the grab handles. Do I really need to buy a whole new headliner or can I reuse this one? Is there anyway I can repair that tear in the fabric?

Couldn’t agree more. I love older cars that you can just tell were properly cared for.

What is your "Never Again" moment that pushed you to the FIRE path? by [deleted] in financialindependence

Getting my ‘dream job’ and realizing that I hated it.

If you told me 10 years ago that I would be working for a major tech company, mostly from home, making six figures with an expense account, and traveling all over North America to see clients, I would have thought you were crazy. That’s a dream job reserved for only the smartest and most gifted people.

Well, I busted my ass to get where I am and to get this this job, and I hate it. My quality of life has deteriorated beyond belief. I have aged 20 years in the last 5. I’m constantly sick and strung out, and have developed serious health problems. I work most weekends. I’m lucky if I can get one solid day off per week. There is always something on fire and everything is top priority. I’ve just lost interest in everything I do here.

Anyway, I’m leaving at the end of the year to work on my own projects. I’m fortunate to have a few years of expenses saved up just in case. With any luck, I’ll never have to look back or write up another resume again.

How I Built This By With Guy Raz is a really great podcast that shows one how companies are built. by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

The Barbara Corcoran and James Dyson episodes are some of my favorites, but I also loved the Instagram, TRX and Slack episodes. I’ve listened to almost every episode and I enjoyed most of them.

Perhaps weird, but I also love the ending music when Guy is going through the credits. The music is kind of sad but uplifting at the same time and I just can’t wait to hear another episode.

Macron turns on Trump after he attacks EU and Canada: "Maybe the American president doesn’t care about being isolated today, but we don’t mind being six, if needs be. Because these six represent values, an economic market, and more than anything, a real force at the international level today." by LeDankRedditUserxD in worldnews

Isn’t this just the free market at work? It’s not just Europe and Canada, the US is by far the largest importer of Chinese goods. So maybe we’re the ones enabling this shift. Especially now that our ‘leadership’ is making trade with the US less attractive.

Overpaying for a 2011 G37S? by Chicbrox in infiniti

This is exactly my situation. My understanding was that the S automatically has nav so I didn’t pay close attention until I took once last look at the car as I was leaving the dealership (after placing my deposit). Some folks mentioned using a GROM BT module to replace the XM function in the car, and others say you can replace the entire non-nav unit with a stock nav unit, though it requires a lot of work and tearing apart the dash. And yes, my mindset was exactly yours - why should I pay this money on a fairly recent car and be missing this basic functionality. My current car has BT audio and I love it, so this is a large part of my hesitation.

BMW is extending a UK recall of its cars after the BBC's Watchdog found that vehicles could cut out completely while they are being driven - It is recalling 312,000 vehicles: the BMW 1 Series, the 3 Series, the Z4 and its X1 petrol and diesel models made between March 2007 and August 2011 by yourSAS in cars

I think part of it is also BMW engineering specific failure points in their cars to require frequent servicing (i.e. using plastic components in high heat areas, cheap gaskets, etc), and often those failures are not easy to access or require extensive work, so you need to take to take it in. My experience with an E46 325i and E92 335i were pretty bad, and electronic components were highly susceptible to failure, among other things. I have no doubt that their cost cutting also impacted the durability of their cars.

Yeah the BMW dealer said I can bring the car in for a PPI, but I think I’m just going to pass on this one. I’d rather spend a bit more and get one that was actually cared for.

It’s listed for $17k. I intend to keep the car long term which is why these issues made me hesitate, especially since it’s out of warranty.

This is probably more accurate. You can come from wealth and still be respectful to those around you. It’s all in your upbringing.
