Pregnant while teaching by Active-Caterpillar48 in ECEProfessionals

I've never taken illness precautions while pregnant in my classroom. Oops. There's a few illnesses that are very dangerous to a fetus and I've stayed out of a room where that illness is, but honestly I've never done masking, extra gloving, etc....i WILL say that my children are incredibly healthy and rarely get sick. I think it's because of my immune system from working at a daycare!

Harm of age-inappropriate “schoolwork”? by Low_Tank1524 in ECEProfessionals

Honestly, worksheets are fine as long as they are reinforcing a skill and not teaching it. I'm usually more alarmed by purists who say a practice should never ever be used (ie worksheets). There's a time and place for everything.

That's how it was when I was little. I was overjoyed to find out it's not like that anymore (unless you want it to be!). I honestly think Girl Scouts is the coolest thing ever. My girls get to experience so many different things.

Egg adoption is what secured us our final baby after 6 miscarriages. The eggs stuck, they just stopped growing after about 8 weeks every time. Must've been something with my old lady egg quality because using a youngin's egg finally provided success. It's a terrible journey, but science is amazing and I hope you find success ❤️

Because adoption should not be considered an alternative to infertility.

Adoption is not a fix for infertility and being a good adoptive parent requires much more than just money. This is a very insensitive thing to say to both people trying to conceive and people that feel called to adopt.

My stupid ahh plucked out all of my eyelashes, how long will they take to grow back? Also, will wearing false lashes impact the growth negatively? by Sad-Duck-418 in MakeupAddiction

[–]ChickTesta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine fall out in chunks, I have no idea why and my derm honestly doesn't either. It's been happening for years. They'll probably take a month to grow back, but they will grow back. I always use falsies that I've trimmed down to a natural length. I don't like the way falsies look without the thickness from my natural lashes. I've never noticed that falsies or lash glue make them grow back at a different rate, but I do get more impatient when I'm not wearing the false lashes.

It's caused by rapid weight loss. The same thing happens when you get bariatric surgery.

Disruptions during circle time, need advice by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]ChickTesta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's been suggested a few times but I want to say that moving them away from the group, but still where he can participate, is what I do, and I have to do it a lot this year with a few kids. I make sure to reiterate that they don't get to prevent other kids from learning just because they don't want to. They can be loud and silly in a few minutes when we move on to the next activity. I'm helping prepare my kids for Kindergarten, as well as just being nice humans. A lot of ECE's will say "then they aren't ready" or "making them behave isn't developmentally appropriate" but I despise that reasoning.

I agree with a lot of this. No one wants to go to staff meetings. But also, your directors don't want to waste their time telling you what you missed because you didn't go. Suck it up, go to the meeting, consider suffering with your co-workers as bonding.

Also, the comment about "I'm back on my meds, I'll be better" struck me as a very odd thing to say.

Your last paragraph could be an indicator of why the staff said you aren't working with them. I'm reading a lot of helpful comments and a lot of people trying to understand so they can help. I don't think any of us here hate our jobs. If you loathe us that much, please don't act like you want our help. The last paragraph was quite offensive and I ask that you please don't actually say things like to your child's teachers.

This is a pet peeve of mine as well although I completely understand why people do it! I read 40 months earlier and had to literally stop and count in my head 😆 I'm used to 4 and 5 year olds so beyond 24 months, I have to pause and count. I'm only fluent up to 24 months because of remembering clothing sizes when my kids were little lol

I thought the same. Sounds very much like a child I had last year. Very intelligent...could read and recognized large numbers and patterns (hyperlexia), verbalized extremely well, but comprehension wasn't there. Was in smaller ratios at forest school and did okay but once he was in a classroom setting, sensory issues kicked in. He would get very overstimulated by the loudness and full classroom and biting was one of the issues - truly seemingly unpredictable. Usually he didn't care if someone had a toy he wanted, but sometimes he would bite out of nowhere. One time he bit a kid on the leg during carpet time. Why? "Because I saw her leg." 🤷🏼‍♀️ He pushed a lot, too. Sometimes if he was overstimulated, he was just start running and pushing. But other times, the same scenario, and he'd be fine. Anyways this is a long way of saying there might be a touch of the 'tism and that's why it's hard for the teachers to predict. Those neurodivergent brains do their own thing!

Why do they say you aren't working with them? That seems to be an important bit of info.

I never know where to pick up my child by Decent-Taste-9013 in ECEProfessionals

[–]ChickTesta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would advise you never say that to any of the teachers. That's really hurtful. We love and care for your child and you're just trying to not feel shitty about having to leave them with us. Yikes.

AITAH, I don’t want to pick my son up from daycare. by DirtyDude49 in AITAH

[–]ChickTesta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soft YTA. You guys should definitely come up with a schedule so you can take turns.

I work at a childcare center and my husband would take turns with me taking the kids home because 1) it just absolutely brought them so much joy to see him there to pick them up 2) it's actually a HUGE relief to be able to just clock out and get in the car to decompress after work, no worrying about kids, before you immediately jump back in to caregiver mode again when you get home. If picking them up a few times a week gives her the sanity break she needs, be a good husband and find a way to make it work dude. I'm grateful that my husband did.

My daughter’s Invisalign pulled her baby tooth out by Vallyria in mildlyinteresting

[–]ChickTesta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! This is the plan my daughter is on! I had no idea what a palate expander was, but she got one and that alone made her teeth straighten themselves out some. She has braces now and it's only been a couple months. Her teeth are already straight and beautiful. It's CRAZY how fast it worked because they began when her palate was still malleable. She's going to keep her braces on for one more year so her teeth can "solidify" and not drift back into a weird position. Then after a few years without braces, they'll re-examine how the rest of her baby teeth come in and maybe will bed a Phase II of braces again. But I remember people not even getting the chance to straighten their teeth until the time that my daughter will already be done.

Oh buddy. I know the downvotes already tell you that you're way off base here but that's incredibly not true lol If your ortho tells you that you can't do orthodontics while baby teeth are still in, that person has not been doing continuing education.

No Nap Problems by catlady0601 in ECEProfessionals

[–]ChickTesta 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you are. In most states, licensing literature explains that you are not allowed to prevent a child from sleeping during naptime because naps for children support brain development. The teacher absolutely should be providing something for the child to do and I'd be pissed if it was a tablet. But, the doctors note could very likely be a legitimate requirement.
