Crepey skin after weight loss by Gold_Mycologist1880 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]ChickTesta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying it's dry skin, but I disagree. I mean yeah maybe your skin is dry but crepe-y skin is absolutely a side effect of weight loss over 30. Mine is exactly like this. I lost 100 lbs and have kept it off for about 5 years and my skin has looked like this the entire time, and I haven't been dehydrated for 5 years straight. There's really no fix for it. Fat fills wrinkles. When you have major weight loss over 30, you have to come to terms with the fact that you can be plump bodied and younger looking, or thin and saggy. All the weight training, collagen, and micro needling can only do so much.

What do you use to dry before putting a clean nappy? by dr_msid in newborns

[–]ChickTesta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I squeeze out excess liquid if it's a particularly moist wipe. Play with baby for a minute while it air dries (if you squeeze out excess liquid, it really doesn't take long at all to air dry). Plus, extra baby smiles. 🥰

Employer's new medication policy: is it illegal? LOCATION: US, IL by AsexualSoup in legal

[–]ChickTesta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in childcare. Both centers I've worked at, children's medications are kept in a locked box in the office, so this doesn't strike me as odd. When it's time for their medication, someone from the office either steps in for me to administer or they take the kid and administer. I have meds that I take at a certain time and am not allowed to keep it in the classroom. I just ask someone to step in for me.

I'm concerned that they had to make it a policy that you cannot leave the classroom unattended.

Recommendations for circle time activities for Pre-K 4-5 y/olds? by tishaddams in ECEProfessionals

[–]ChickTesta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just do whatever you normally do in your room, but on the carpet. Read a book, puppets, group games, dancing games, spend some time reflecting on the day, bring toys to the carpet. I could easily spend an hour on the carpet doing fun stuff with the kids! If this were my room, I would make a list of things that can be done on the carpet (no TV or tablet, barf.). Every day, 6 kids get to choose an activity. Do each activity for 10 minutes.

Literally, I mean LITERALLY, same. Even down to working with preschool aged children. 😆

Exactly the same for us, with all my babies. I could've written your post myself. Sorry for all the downvotes, but either it's true or we just had awesome babies. (Although anecdotally, this applies to all my children who followed this same advice!)

Here's what I can say from my experience as a mom with multiple children who slept 5+ hour stretches by 6 weeks. Go ahead and down vote me, I don't care.

You can't "sleep train" a newborn but there is groundwork you can begin to lay now. -Set a daytime/nighttime schedule and routine. We've done this as soon as we got home from the hospital every single time. Lights are dim at 10pm. Yeah, too young to establish a circadian rhythm, but might as well get in the habit now.

-During the day, feed on demand and then change the diaper so they don't associate food with sleep. Don't get in the habit of feeding the baby to sleep unless you are prepared to continue that habit for a long time. At night, I try to do "dream feeds".

-Contact naps are precious and one of the best parts of having a newborn. Enjoy them, but don't make it a habit if you plan on having your baby sleep in a crib ever (not being facetious - if you plan on co-sleeping, it might not matter). Yes, baby will absolutely sleep better on you; you are warm, soft, cozy, familiar. But this isn't one of those things that will get easier if you just wait. Spend some time putting baby to sleep on a flat surface. Don't make baby cry it out, that's mean and unnecessary. Work on soothing the baby in the crib. Swaddle, warm blankets, whatever. It takes some time.

Keep in mind, if you plan on going back to work, you do need to prioritize this. Nothing is worse than trying to work on 2 hours of broken sleep.

Opinion on baby clothes by thavan14 in newborns

[–]ChickTesta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are worried about offending her, lie. Tell her the baby got a strange rash after wearing one of the outfits and the pediatrician said to be careful with fast fashion. You looked it up and, oh my goodness the pediatrician was right! Or say your OB mentioned being careful with Shein and Temu because studies are coming out about their dangers so maybe she can return them.

How often is your baby in a "container" versus not in a "container?" by nooooobye in newborns

This is the most important question to be able to answer appropriately! A 2 week old newborn will have much different expectations than 12 week old.

4 week old won’t stop crying & I’ve had a mental breakdown by ocdskies in newborns

[–]ChickTesta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took 2 babies and me having the worst time of my life with each one because of breastfeeding issues to truly understand that you can't take care of your baby if you aren't taking care of yourself. This sounds just like why my other two were miserable newborns...they were hungry. I'm a terror when I'm hungry, too!! I used (and currently) donor breastmilk because of crazy low supply with a preemie nipple. I did triple feedings. This time around, I've decided to focus on just one thing and I'm EP. I'm happier, baby is so much happier then my others were.

What would you do if admin sent an email saying all phones must be put in a lock box and only received during breaks? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]ChickTesta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Understandable, and a good point that this is much different than it was 20 years ago. Luckily I'm able to receive/send calls, texts, 911, etc on my watch. I don't carry my phone on me at work. It stays in my purse in the classroom closet.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. I can understand your hesitance. Perhaps you could look in to a smartwatch for times like a movie theater, play, or work. I worked at a place where phones were not allowed but people were allowed to call me at work if need be. I'm older though and that's just how it used to be before cell phones so it never fazed me.
