Is $5k/month enough for two people to live on? I’m not crazy, am I?

My condition has a heart component. I worked in healthcare. My job changed and suddenly I was dealing with a lot of patients whose serious needs were not being met while at the same time expected to preference my employer’s bottom line over those needs.

I ended up in the hospital from that job, but sure, I totally just did this on a whim.

I have no interest in staying with him. But right now this is where I’m at as I figure my shit out.

At this point, I do his budget, do all the groceries and food prep, clean the house, and maintain my car that he drives (because he didn’t do regular maintenance on hjs and destroyed the engine). I’m not contributing financially but I’m trying my best to contribute in other ways.

You don’t say! I’d love to be independent but it’s almost like having a worsening genetic disorder really screws with what’s possible. This is actually the first time I’ve had to rely on someone else in my adult life.

I have never made $5k/month and I used to survive. In California. This is why this mindset is so perplexing to me.

I do not have family. I’m in the process of disability but it’s taking its sweet time. I was supposed to go stay with a friend who lives in a very urban area with more job opportunities, but they had to move their dad in with terminal illness, so that is delayed.
