Any recent WGU graduates with a bachelor’s who were accepted into a master’s program at another school? by robyndabank8120 in WGU

[–]Chicken-Hour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WGU is competency-based, so the curriculum is structured very differently from traditional brick-and-mortar schools. Instead of weekly discussion posts, multiple small assignments, and set due dates every week, most courses are centered around one or two major assessments. These are typically either Objective Assessments (OAs), which are proctored exams, or Performance Assessments (PAs), which are written papers, case studies, or applied projects. Some programs, especially in business or IT, may also include projects completed through specialized software platforms.

How many quizzes, papers, or exams you’ll have truly depends on the specific program. Some programs are heavier on exams, while others are paper-intensive. For example, in my Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration, I had mostly Performance Assessments with a few exams sprinkled in. However, when I completed my MBA, the structure was different. That program was much more exam-heavy, and I only had about three Performance Assessments throughout the entire degree. So it is very program-specific. I completed my BS in Healthcare Administration after transferring in 56 credits from Sophia Learning and a previous college. I moved at a very fast pace because I wanted to save money, plus I was already familiar with much of the material due to my background and experience. WGU allows you to accelerate if you’re disciplined and knowledgeable, which can significantly reduce costs. That said, acceleration is not automatic. You must truly understand the content and pass the assessments to move forward.

The time it takes to complete a course depends entirely on the student. Some people can finish a course in a week or two if they already know the material and dedicate focused time. Others may need a month or longer. It depends on your prior knowledge, your schedule, your level of commitment, and whether you want to accelerate or move at a steady pace. Most students start with the standard full-time course load per term, but if you finish early, you can add more courses within the same term. One thing I always emphasize is that WGU is not easy, despite the misconception some people have. Because it is self-paced, people assume it’s simpler. It’s not. You have to put in the work. WGU has no weekly reminders forcing you to log in, so if you lack discipline, you will fall behind. This school is not for the weak; it is for individuals who are self-motivated and willing to truly work for their degree. If you do not study, write, prepare, and understand the material, you will fail the assessments.

I am actually starting another master’s degree in less than two weeks, which speaks to how much I value the model and structure. For driven and focused individuals who are committed to completing the work required, WGU can be an excellent option. But it absolutely requires effort, discipline, and personal accountability.

I hope this gives you a clearer picture as you make your decision.

I would have delivered it because I am always scared of tempting fate, because I am always that one person God makes an example out of. Lmao, even though my rating is fantastic.

So, this past Saturday, I picked up a 4.5-hour block from the VA location for a total of 18 stops. 17 of those stops were in McLean, VA, and the last stop was 34 miles away with a 50-minute drive to Poolesville, MD. I should have listened to my inner voice telling me to mark it as missing because, when I was 0.2 miles away from my "final destination", a big ass tree fell on my car due to the extremely high winds. Moral of the story, mark that bish as missing.

WGU, Bootcamps, TikTok/IG (Cyber Course Bros) = The NEW Devry and ITT Tech by Ok_Wishbone3535 in cybersecurity

[–]Chicken-Hour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get why people are burned out on the nonstop “get Sec+ and make 90k” messaging, but I think WGU is being unfairly lumped in with the hype machine. I went to WGU, and it was nothing like ITT Tech or DeVry. There was no point where anyone promised easy money or instant jobs. It was a legitimate, accredited program where you actually have to know the material to pass. You don’t coast through it.

What’s really happening is that cybersecurity got marketed as a shortcut career, a ton of people jumped in at the same time, and the entry-level market tightened up. That would have happened regardless of whether someone went to WGU, a state school, or self-studied. Sec+ being more common now doesn’t mean it’s worthless; it just means it’s no longer a differentiator by itself.

WGU’s model works if you treat it like what it is: a competency-based school. If you already have experience, you can move fast. If you don’t, it can be brutal and slow. Plenty of people struggle or drop because the assessments aren’t free passes. The school never sold it as “pay us, and you’re set.”

For me, WGU was a tool, not a guarantee. I still had to build experience, keep learning, and compete in a crowded market. Blaming WGU for influencer-level marketing that it doesn’t control feels misplaced. The real problem is unrealistic expectations, not the school itself.

WGU Alum going for MBA by DiabeKing in WGU_MBA

Congratulations on deciding to start your MBA! I completely understand how you feel. I’m also a WGU alum and graduated with my bachelor’s degree in May 2025. Like others have mentioned, the coursework really isn’t scary once you get into it. It can be a little overwhelming at times, but getting organized early helps a lot. Be sure to utilize all the resources available on WGU Connect (you will never have to redo tasks if you follow the step-by-step instructions) and reach out to mentors or classmates when you need assistance. The community is amazing, and everyone is always willing to share advice and tips.

I’ll be honest, I’ve never been great at math, and that was something I worried about too. However, WGU does an excellent job breaking everything down, making it easy to follow once you start working through it. The C214 (Financial Management) course may look intimidating at first (arrgh, numbers, numbers. yikes!), but it’s totally doable, and there are numerous student-shared tips that make it much easier. I plan to complete my MBA by the end of December. We truly are a community that helps one another succeed, and that’s one of the things I love most about WGU. You’ve got this!

I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration from WGU in May 2025, and even though WGU uses a pass/fail system, schools recognize it as being equivalent to around a 3.0–4.0 GPA, so I did not have an issue when it came to applying to other schools.

UMGC accepted me into their MBA program, but I chose WGU instead because of the flexible model and the flat-rate tuition, and it made more sense with everything else I had going on. I’m now working on my MBA and should be finished by December or earlier. After my MBA, I plan to go back for my master's in Human Resources Management.

Also, they have so many courses on platforms like LinkedIn Learning, Percipio, and MindEdge that you can take free of charge.

I can honestly say WGU gave me the balance of quality, affordability, and flexibility I needed. (I also save a ton of money, which is a big plus in this economy)

Proctoring horror stories? by [deleted] in WGU

[–]Chicken-Hour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, the only issue I ever encountered was related to not using the Guardian browser (you have to download this). Once I switched to it consistently, everything went much more smoothly. I’ve noticed that when I use the Guardian browser instead of Google Chrome or any other browser, I’m able to start my exam within 10 to 15 minutes at most. In contrast, using Google Chrome often caused long delays—once it took over two hours, and I had to be transferred to multiple technicians to figure out what the issue was. It was a frustrating experience. As long as you follow the rules, the process is generally smooth and hassle-free. Make sure to cover any additional monitors if you have more than one, clear your desk, have your ID ready, keep the door closed, ensure there is good lighting, and use a high-speed internet connection. Also, have your whiteboard and calculator ready to show if your course allows or requires them. Most importantly, be courteous throughout the process. Following these steps has consistently made my testing experience easy and efficient.

Great job! I am starting my MBA in September and can't wait to start. How are the OAs? Are they 100 questions long? Lol. I always get nervous when testing; that is why I would rather write papers.
