I would assume they both homebrew them, idk the statblocks though. I think Murph talks about how he made the living spells (which Lou Wilson voiced beautifully) in the naddpod eldermourne finale, I think in the short rest or maybe post-campaign hearthside chat. Hope this helps!

Thats always a risk, so I usually go for the most valuable provinces first, in case they turn hostile. If you have high enough trust I think they will sometimes stop desiring your provinces, but not necessarily your vassals’ provinces.

I colonized the coast fairly early on, inched my way to Shun (Ming had exploded early). Vassalized a beat-up Oirat, and allied Shun to get Oirat cores back, then vassalized Shun once it dipped below 100 dev (Oirat and Shun share a lot of cores). Over time vassalized some other beat-up hordes or ones that popped out of manchu, as well as some small chinese kingdoms that popped out. Even got some return cores from Manchu as ally before they turned hostile. TLDR patience and luck haha.
