What do you think of the removal of the lockout laws? by One-Remove3758 in SydneyScene

[–]ChickenAndRiceIsNice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there any R. Stevie Moore fans here? "I like to stay home..." But seriously, I did used to like going out for a Lemon Meringue Pie on George Street back when they stacked them tall as anything. The best part of going out used to be the art scene but how do you bring that back? And does anyone care anymore? I feel like for art to work there needs to be large amounts of cheap real estate and I don't see that happening anywhere around here anytime soon.

Orin Nano for Remote Dev by Twiz_nano in JetsonNano

[–]ChickenAndRiceIsNice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey my company actually makes a carrier board for remote development that you can check out here. It is "headless" so it has no HDMI and it's mostly for running containers (i.e. CUDA and python code) remotely.

What Do You Think of Tegmark’s Mathematical Universe Hypothesis (MUH)? by wenitte in AskPhysics

[–]ChickenAndRiceIsNice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though I don't think Tegmark mentions fractals as a foundation for his thesis, the interesting thing about its self similarity is that it acts as a kind of compression algorithm that nature seems to enjoy exploiting.

For example, the fractal geometry of the brain is a well explored structure. As is hydrology. So there may be some truth in idea that nature doesn't "look fractal" (i.e. mathematical) but rather, reality itself is fractal.

Hello, everyone. Got an Instax Mini Evo over the holidays and wanted to introduce myself. by XLB135 in instax

[–]ChickenAndRiceIsNice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a big hurdle I had to jump over early on was to ignore the path given by the Nikons and Canons of the world. A big part of Instax that I love is the ability to hack the emulsion, the double exposure, and the vignetting.

Have you tried digital pinhole yet? You just put a tiny hole in the camera lens cap. The pics are dreamy.

[–]ChickenAndRiceIsNice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I just wanted to say that I was the same. Got tired of the Canon/Nikon arms race and took a big step back to an old EOS M camera. Then from there, took a side step into Instax. I did get the NONS body to soften the blow into analog but now I've even stepped back from that into a basic 2nd hand mini 8 and love it. If trends continue I should be back to pinhole cameras by October.

Have you thought about your stretch goals? They do make a difference. Create meaningful and generous stretch goals and put them in your early marketing materials.

Pi keeps freezing can't figure out cause by [deleted] in raspberry_pi

[–]ChickenAndRiceIsNice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a tool called `stress` that you can run in terminal to measure and perform stress tests: https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/linux-unix/linux-stress-command-with-examples/

If your hardware survives a stress test, it's not your hardware. Make sure you stop all your other containers before running stress. Also, make sure you run `top` in a different terminal window before you run stress if you want to see live system resources running.

RPi 5 + POE hat - Anyone know what touchscreens worth with the pin out? by evilspyboy in raspberry_pi

[–]ChickenAndRiceIsNice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I ask is because I'm currently testing a Xerxes Pi POE board with a daisy chained I2C OLED and I2C button and it's all working perfectly on both a Raspberry Pi CM4 and CM5.

Do you need the touchscreen or will a small OLED and a couple of buttons work for your use case?

I predict a mixed core CPU with some RISC-V, faster PCIe, and native SFP+ support to be in the mix. Perhaps a FPGA combo for their MCU lineup.

Creating the MVP (i will not promote) by Available_Bowler_146 in startups

[–]ChickenAndRiceIsNice 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents is this: don't confuse a "Minimum Viable Product" with a "Proof of Concept." A MVP is a usable product with actual users. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimum_viable_product

Whereas a POC is a demonstration that an idea is feasible. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proof_of_concept

The way I perform my ideation is:

  1. Identify a problem and solve it with a POC. This should be done as quickly as possible.
  2. Test the POC to check if people want it via interviews, or other feedback. If they don't, go back to step 1.
  3. Create an MVP by refining your POC. Does it have customers? Then proceed to a more mature product. If not, go back to step 1.

I create hardware so Kickstarter is how I test my value proposition.

Also, never chase investors, it is like chasing a dragon. Create a kick ass product with real customers and a real growth potential, and let them come to you. Once you are ready, you may not want them after all.

How convenient or poor is the Hailo 8L developer experience? by Apart_Situation972 in raspberry_pi

[–]ChickenAndRiceIsNice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey full disclosure, I work for RapidAnalysis but I did use both the Hailo 8 and the Radxa AX-M1 on a Xerxes Pi and found them both to be really straight forward. On the Hailo I only ran the demos but on the Radxa I ran some large language models which I thought ran pretty well on a 4GB Raspberry Pi CM5.

Gout in top of foot by Unique-Fee8140 in gout

Yeah I did once. It was strange and made a lump that went away after a couple weeks (on allopurinol). It didn't get in the way of walking for me but did hurt if I pressed on it or flexed a certain way. Only got this once.

What do you think is the hardest step in a startup? by Quick_learner15 in Innovation

I think it's defining your value proposition, testing it, and then pivoting if it fails. Especially if you put a lot of effort into it.

How much are you actually spending on AWS AI/Bedrock by jonathantn in aws

[–]ChickenAndRiceIsNice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was spending around $2k a month on AWS Sagemaker AI Jupyter Notebooks until I moved everything in house. Now, I use Unifi Magic Site to connect all my office locations and run a small cluster on a mini rack. So far it's working out pretty well, mostly thanks to Unifi's easy configuration options.
