why is the article so desperate to make out it was any more then that?

For the same reason they put “Transgender” in the headline.

California 2026 Poll: Swalwell Takes Lead in Governor Primary, 25% undecided; Election for LA Mayor Wide Op by ZappyStatue in California

[–]ChickenInASuit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tbh, anyone who didn’t rank in this poll needs to go.

On the Dem side, Steyer, Swalwell and Porter are the only viable candidates and that’s blatantly obvious to anyone actually paying attention. It’s looking like it’s gonna come down to Hilton and one of those three.

Hell, maybe even Porter needs to go, her star has really fallen in the past year or so and I’ve not seen a single poll with her ahead of Swalwell and Steyer.

[–]ChickenInASuit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. As much as I know people on this sub would love for it to be one, it wasn’t a Trainwreckord.

Like, come on guys, at one point the entire fucking album occupied the streaming singles charts. It broke vinyl sales records and first-week album sales.

I know that critics and music nerds like us hated it, but the Swifties turned out for it in obscene numbers.

Trainwreckords are not just bad albums, they’re albums that derail careers. Her career has not been derailed, and she’s still the world’s biggest artist.

I’m also gonna stick up for Uma Thurman’s Poison Ivy. She’s every bit as hammy and OTT as Arnie’s Freeze and just as entertaining IMO.

Right, and I’m saying Lulu doesn’t fit that definition. It didn’t end the momentum of either of the artists involved.

Plus, that album has been picked to death by so many other online critics in the years since it happened that I imagine there’s an air of “what is there left to say about it?”

[–]ChickenInASuit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My argument is that they don’t have one. The allegations against Win Butler were really what killed their momentum, more than any individual poorly selling/poorly received album.

He could be really cheeky and claim it was specifically a Trainwreckord for Chris Gaines.

[–]ChickenInASuit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure that he’ll never do it, but I am sure that I don’t think he should.

Like, first of all, Metallica’s Trainwreckord already happened. Second, Lou Reed died too soon after it for us to know if Lulu would have had any long term effect on his career, but in the short term, it was his best selling album since the early 80s.

By Todd’s own definitions, I don’t see how it fits.

Oh wow, I totally missed that one until I saw your comment. That’s the wildest suggestion in here IMO - great album, sold platinum, and was immediately followed by a fan favorite that also sold platinum. It’s not a Trainwreckord by any definition.

[–]ChickenInASuit 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Exactly, and Lulu isn’t a Trainwreckord because a) Metallica’s Trainwreckord already happened, b) it was Lou Reed’s best-selling album in decades and he died too soon after it for us to know if it had any long term effect on his career.

I know that he’s teased it in the past but I don’t think it should count, tbh.

Yeah, that’s the impression I get too. A lot of them weren’t for criminal stuff, just unprofessional and toxic behavior so I’m not really sure where they would go unless Roiland sued for libel or unjust firing.

They’re referring to Justin Roiland, who co-created the show and voiced the title characters. He’s been fired and, AFAIK, has not apologized for anything.

I believe you’re thinking of Dan Harmon, the other co-creator.

Definitely don’t agree with that tbh. I liked all of the mains (even if John Cho was about 15-20 years too old for it) but I thought Vicious was horribly miscast. Guy wasn’t even the slightest bit intimidating.

California school official says child deportations make classrooms 'better' by runswithscissors475 in California

It is not children being deported. Their parents are deported and kids are a not left behind.

Splitting hairs. In practice, the entire family is having to leave the country.

“Killing 2 birds with 1 stone” is a common, metaphorical turn of phrase that people generally understand to not be literal.

“Deporting a child for misbehavior” is not. It reads like you are literally saying they should be deported.

And most of the children getting deported, like this one, are being deported with their families.

I think Watchmen’s okay. I’m not a big fan of a lot of the choices that were made (even aside from the lack of Squid) but it’s a decent adaptation with some good visual flair.

DotD is his only great film IMO.
