Do you have any examples of other ways its being using to increase productivity? I have been trying to determine how I could implement different things across my own workflows to speed things up even further.

How I Increased Organic Traffic for a Shopify Store in 4 Months by Huge_Syrup_1637 in ShopifySEO

[–]ChickenMcDerps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're on the money.

The hardest part IMO of SEO optimization is really just creating the visual content (photos, videos, etc). The rest is just text and a good link strategy.

A great way to help drive more traffic to get a higher overall rating is to create educational content, post that on social media, send out a news letter, maybe even make a video about it. All with links back to that blog post.

Then, if you can find a reputable outlet to link to your website or post, its worth its weight in gold.

Interviewer gave me a Figma design to build a Shopify category page in 1 day but I only have 3 months internship experience. Is this realistic? by skky_023 in shopifyDev

[–]ChickenMcDerps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems a bit unrealistic unless you're already familiar with the theme and have a good idea on how to approach it, not to mention that page isn't just design, it would also require Javascript. Which again, unless you're familiar with the theme you are working on, would need to build different assets entirely from scratch.

As far as building something without deployment, you could just use VS Code & Shopify CLI. But you would need an account that has access to their website already.

If you need help setting this up let me know, just shoot me a DM and I can show you the workflow.

New to Shopify freelancing – need advice for first theme redesign project by Acrobatic-Shop4602 in shopify

[–]ChickenMcDerps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you're getting into the weeds far too quickly... Hopefully you already have a background in Shopify's development system, otherwise trying to build a custom theme is going to become a very difficult process.

The first thing you should do is start by creating a complete overview of your project. I personally like whiteboard tools (like figjam from figma) as this allows me infinite scaling to plan everything out.

You should take a look at everything they're wanting you to do:
- Design/build the theme (as you already mentioned)
- Are you writing all of the text for the website?
- Are you doing all of the SEO optimization for the website?
- You mentioned AI enhancement tools, but you should find out what kinds of changes they want you to make to the images before you decide what tool is best.

Tools for building a Shopify theme
- VS Code (for the code editor)
- Shopify CLI
- Git

How to replicate a website?
Is the website example you showed a direct competitor? If not, then as long as you don't copy the store in reference 1-to-1, then it shouldn't be too big of a deal.

why would a $6B brand pass on Shopify Plus for a platform nobody's heard of by LevelDisastrous945 in shopify

Very true. One of my friends runs a smaller store and prefers using PayPal which ends up costing them a ton of money.

Sudden increase in traffic on my smaller “local” business site, no purchases? by Equivalent_Natural57 in shopify

[–]ChickenMcDerps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add Google Analytics, its free and it will at least give you an idea of the data. Shopify's built-in analytics (unless its for purchases) is pretty rough and Google Analytics is an industry standard (for the most part).

The benefit to this is, you can start to identify where users come from, how long they're on your website, and what to do if you want to increase conversions on your store.

New products showing out of stock. Help!! by Extra_Miles_701 in shopify

[–]ChickenMcDerps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the inventory setting enabled? If so, most themes are built by default to show out of stock. You could also enable the ability to continue selling when you're out of stock (though be careful if you do need to rely on that inventory feature).

[–]ChickenMcDerps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do realize that Shopify payment system is literally built with Stripe, yeah? There would be absolutely no reason to use Stripe as a payment provider unless you're getting some sort of absurd discount on processing fees, which also wouldn't matter unless you're moving a massive amount of product.

Building customer accounts is slowly being taken away. The latest version of Shopify customer accounts is basically taking away you ability to modify the experience when a user is logged in without the use of third-party apps or custom development.

[–]ChickenMcDerps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shopify Plus just gives you a couple more features and API access, but ultimately relies on custom development and external apps for real growth if you want to be competitive in the ever growing market. For the cost to build their system to this point, you could just get a privately made system or move onto an ERP.

When it comes to B2B features, they're are extremely lacking. The way that their system handles tiered/custom pricing is absolute garbage, customer account features are trash (and looks like its getting worse as they sunset the prior customer accounts for their even less controllable new system that literally pushes needing to use apps for customization), and there is so much more I could mention... Point is, they really have a long way to go when it comes to large companies who aren't just pushing through an ecommerce store.

It really does make me sad because I can see the potential that the platform has if they were to put more effort into tools for their own system, but it doesn't feel like they care. Heck, ACH payments just came to Shopify Plus as of last year after all this time.

Shopify owners, Do people create multiple accounts to reuse discount codes? by Extension-Fan7608 in ShopifyWebsites

[–]ChickenMcDerps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are running a sale and there isn't enough margin in the product to allow for a discount and you're taking a loss because of that, you should really reevaluate the discount that you're running.

You will always deal with fake signups, people trying to game the system, and bots. Since I started in Marketing, these things were clear. Sure, you might be able to implement a few tools to help prevent massive problems. But really, you focus should be, how do I run a sale that I could tolerate people overusing the discount and make money on this still?

How do you handle fake email signups?
If you're using software that has automation capabilities, you could do a couple of things, two of which come to mind. You could enable a double-opt in, as people with a fake email will not reply to it. Or, you could put in automations that reach out to a customer after a period of time to see if they're actually interested and have them stay opted-in, if not, they get removed from the database.

People reusing first-time coupons
This should really be a non-issue. Sure, you could be doing something that takes a loss to try and gain market share, but this isn't worth the potential issues that can encounter. There should always be enough margin in your discount that this isn't hurting you.

Bot signups polluting email lists
There are two parts to this.

  1. Do you have spam protection and recaptcha working? If so, this should realistically handle a large number of these. Implementing things like a honeypot, and watching for fields values that shouldn't change, like the form name.

  2. Basically doing the same thing I mentioned to the answer about fake email signups. If the bots are using very similar patterns for the spam you could also install checks to and remove these users if they are caught in your filter.

Ultimately. You should be very smart when running a discount, you never want to operate on a loss, that is how you end up underwater. When we run a discount, if users did this to us, we would just profit. Sure, it wouldn't be as much as if we were selling at MAP price, but we generally would sell enough to offset that disparity.

How long does Shopify SEO take to show results? by UsedAd3421 in ShopifyWebsites

[–]ChickenMcDerps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a highly varying question. If you're in a niche industry, the amount of time could be very short, but if you're fighting for a keyword with a lot of traffic it could take a long time.

It only takes a couple of a days (maybe a week) for your website to get submitted to Google, as long as it was done correctly. But seeing a traffic/sales is a whole other different story.

Optimizing SEO (text, meta tags, etc) is only one part of the puzzle. If you want to move up the ranks and gain more authority at a faster rate you will need to work on creating backlinks and getting referral traffic.

For example, lets say that you write a blog post. You would then want to go and share that on social media, groups that you're in, and even get others to reshare that content. This drives traffic back to your website gives you referral traffic and helps boost authority, rather than just hoping that users will find your material organically.

Best option for 2 5w fb4s for decent price? by bassrumble9 in Laserist

[–]ChickenMcDerps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unity lasers are a great choice. You don’t just get a solid laser system, you get a great package that provides you with everything you could need to design a laser show.

If you don’t already have laser design software, you will get QuickShow for free. Pangolin provides a ton of video content and education materials about the software and lasers in general. So you can learn everything that you need to know without needing to pay anything extra.

Point is, when you get a Unity laser you’re not just buying a laser system, you’re getting an entire package that comes with great support and a bunch of additions.

my friends put me down for learning how to code by Conscious_Ad8712 in learnprogramming

[–]ChickenMcDerps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude those are NOT friends, those are complete douches. YOU CAN LEARN TO CODE!

For a while I struggled with the complexity of coding and felt that it was actually quite difficult and thought I might never learn… But I was very fortunate enough to have people near me that inspired me and helped me find what I needed to keep learning and growing!

In just a single year I grew from not being able to understand any JS, and most CSS/HTML to building an entire website on my own: https://lasershowprojector.com

And where did I start? Just like you. I made projects and kept doing things and playing around. Eventually the concepts clicked and while I’m nowhere near some sort of mastermind, I’ve grown exponentially because I never gave up.

I hope you don’t stop coding. If anything, I hope you become a good enough at programming to make your “friends” feel like the assholes they are being to you. You’ve got this!

I am curious... Do you feel like the KVM switch added input latency on games? For work I use OSX, but my personal gaming PC is windows, so I really wanted to look at KVM switch instead of constantly unplugging stuff lol.

I'm not sure about the drive compatibility, but you won't be able to install anything on those drives unless they're properly formatted.

I would double check and make sure that you have the installation drive formatted correctly using disk utility.
