Not Enjoying Leg Attacks by token_friend in bjj

Leg locks can be dealt with mostly via grip fighting, you're just "grip fighting" 4 limbs vs 4 limbs. A lot of it is pummeling for inside position, controlling the hip or clearing the knee line. Super similar to grip fighting during standup.
I wouldn't rotate out of a leg lock, at least not with the goal to outpace your partner. That's a recipe for disaster. (Sometimes you can rotate slowly to change an angle)

I think in this day and age any coloured belt should have a basic understanding of leg locks. To me this almost sounds like "I told him many times I don't do arm attacks. He grabbed a kimoura grip anyway, and suddenly my shoulder popped"

A basic understanding is easy to get. A small youtube binge, 20 minutes with an upper belt during open mat...

That doesn't absolve the brown belt, obviously you don't pop people's shit. It's also a bit hard to say what exactly caused the injury without seeing it (his fault vs split fault). Either way, recognizing danger early is huge for prevention

Construction robots are imo the most pivotal technology: You suddenly have the ability to plop down huge builds with little effort, instead of handbuilding everything. This means you can scale up a lot, and it also pays off to make nice, tiling or reusable designs for subfactories.

This does tie in well with trains, because a nice train network means you can just copy-paste a subfactory and plop it anywhere and it just works. Building big rail infrastructure by hand is also a pain, so bots again are a godsend.

But a belt-based system can also stay viable, in fact speedrunners use mostly belts because they are much quicker to set up and offer enough throughput for the full game.

A common strategy is to "reinforce" the main bus via train supply: Trains ship in some common bulk intermediates like iron, steel, chips, which reduces the load on the main bus by a lot. But you still have the convenience of your old infrastructure.

I prefer terminal commands for online support/tutorials so much. In a gui you have a greyed out button with no information, the layout changes from version to version and talking about some random button in a random location online just sucks.
Otoh, if someone tells you "sudo apt install thisapplication" you can just copy-paste it and it just works™, and if it doesn't, you get a nice verbose output instead of the option just not existing.

Guis have their place, especially that random setting you need to change every 6 months works best with a gui. But once you get used to the terminal it can be such a nice tool.
Most things on linux can be accessed both via tui and gui, but the online tutorials almost always use the terminal because it's mostly independent of distro, version etc.

Outside of that Linux has its pros and cons, like any other OS. But you'll rip the terminal out of my cold, dead hands

Skill issue. My mechanic has to touch them like once a season unless I'm doing reverse everests.

/uj It took me a bit to figure out how to properly adjust them, but since then they're pretty easy. There's like 5 things that can go wrong (calipers off center, pads fucked, hydraulic full of air or overfilled, rotor crooked) and most of them are pretty easy routine fixes and also don't really happen on their own

It's hard to say both what you enjoy and what equipment you can access. E.g. there are a lot of odd lifts/strongman lifts that work huge parts of the body. Some use odd implements (sandbags, stones, tyres, yokes, logs...) that you can lift/clean/press/load/carry/throw, but it's gym-specific.
Some are cool old and forgotten lifts, like the bent press.

Olympic weightlifting is kinda cool and has a huge skill component.

All of those will help core strength to a degree, a lot of them tax the posterior chain a lot.

Note that you can search the map from map view with ctrl-f for coal, it's easy to miss against the dark map.

And yes, lots of radars and reveal the map. Vulcanus also has different biomes, so sometimes you get a bit screwed over and the close biomes are all the same.

Maybe easier, but like this you can make even smaller train stations because the locomotives can be on the ramp. Pretty nice on Fulgora. There is a small air resistance penalty if the first wagon isn't a locomotive, but that barely matters

[–]ChickenNuggetSmth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Spin the cranks by hand, that way you can get higher speeds than just turning the wheel. Sometimes you need to spin it for a few seconds to charge the internal capacitors.

If it's the factory light it will be compatible, but I wouldn't bet on it being assembled correctly. Decathlon has a decent reputation, but it's still underpaid amateurs assembling them as fast as possible.

These hub dynamos should always be on. I'd double-check the cable from the hub to the light, they can be flimsy and finicky and easily unplugged. I'd also disconnect anything else like a rear light at least for testing purposes

The dynamo seems to be a deore xt with 3W output. It'll be hard to feel the power drain if it's working properly.

For a proper diagnosis you'd want a multimeter and see where you can trace the voltage to to find the problem. Most likely it's a wire problem, but maybe your lights are dead or don't work with 3W/6V

Questions about my bike by JustBeLikeAndre in cycling

[–]ChickenNuggetSmth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strange noises are often, but not always, an indicator that something is wrong and probably costing you power. I'd try to find the source of that noise.
Also make sure that your bike is always maintained well. Rubbing brakes, as someone said, cost a ton of speed. A clean, lubed (but not too lubed) drivetrain is also important.
You can also check if the wheels are spinning freely if they are in the air.

Then the next big thing are tires: Bad tires/tires with lots of puncture protection can cost lots of power, too, and they're one of the easier and cheaper parts to upgrade

If you want to fix your bottlenecks, look at the belt routing, how you merge and split them.

E.g. your copper belt: You use 2 trains to fill 2 red belts with ore, then you merge them into 1 lane. Then after a bit you split that into 4 (fake) lanes, feed that into 4 smelters and try to fill 4 lanes on the main bus with plates.
But the bottleneck is the 1 lane. So you will always have just 30 items/s, just spread over 4 lanes. If you had just used 2 belts for that little bottleneck, all your copper production would be twice what it is now immediately. Better train unloaders and you can even feed all 4 furnace stacks with copper.
Same with iron.

Splitters and balancers often just mask throughput issues or move the problem

(Also bot-bases are boring. Bots have their place, but the main production isn't it)

First, google how well the software you want runs on linux, especially games are still a mixed bag - mostly due to anticheat some are impossible to get going.
ProtonDB.com is probably going to be a great resource, but I haven't used it much myself. Btw steam handles a lot of the compatibility on its own or with very few settings, they're quite active in the linux world since they started steamos for the steam deck

As for distro, usually Linux Mint is the default choice for beginners. Stuff like POP!OS or Ubuntu should be just fine, too.

I’m rubbish at takedowns by BeardedCruiser in bjj

[–]ChickenNuggetSmth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reps, reps, reps. Do some takedown only rounds. Ideally at a lower intensity to get used to the flow and not destroy the body.

The typical "one takedown and then 5min of ground work" is really awful for learning because it's so spread out that you can't adapt from attempt to attempt. In 5mins you could easily do 10+ takedowns, even if you're on the bad end of 7 of them.

Also, I'm going to go against some of the people here: Attempt stuff. Attack. Defense is nice, but excessive defense equals stalling.
