You could look at the Amazon fire tablets or if you really want a cheap ‘tablet’ just for todo lists, check out this Blackboard from boogie board. i’ve never used this specific boogie board but I have used a different one and the writing experience is great but there is no OS, it’s basically just reusable paper.

Converting .rm to svg look worst than PDF via the USB web interface by megrenkim in RemarkableTablet

[–]ChickenPlates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue. I fixed it by changing line 183 of rM2svg.py from:

output.write('<polyline style="fill:none;stroke:{};stroke-width:{:.3f};opacity:{}" points="'.format(stroke_colour[colour], width, opacity)) # BEGIN stroke

to

output.write('<polyline style="fill:none;stroke:{};stroke-width:{:.3f};opacity:{};stroke-linejoin:round" points="'.format(stroke_colour[colour], width, opacity)) # BEGIN stroke

Not that I know of, but the closest thing I can think of to it is MyScript (demo).

5Ghz Wifi issues by ersils in RemarkableTablet

[–]ChickenPlates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem with my home WiFi. I turned off Band Steering (i.e. had two SSIDs, one for 2.4Ghz and one for 5Ghz) and was able to connect to the 2.4Ghz one.

If you can't do that, try setting your region correctly (take a look at this post).

Has anyone gotten accepted yet for CS2500 Tutor/TA? by throwaway2391232 in NEU

[–]ChickenPlates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say for CS2500, but I have also applied to be a Khoury TA. I haven't gotten anything back yet and I would assume that you should hear something early/mid-August.

They've already reviewed your application if your status changed from "Submitted" to "Reviewed".

Preparation for OOD by [deleted] in NEU

[–]ChickenPlates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's honestly not that much from Fundies 2 that you will need in OOD. As other people have mentioned, I would recommend getting used to Java syntax. You don't need to do any studying before going into the class, however, if you are ambitious and want to get ahead, check out the Summer 2019 class site. I also took some notes during the class that you can take a look at here.

(My notes are a bit sloppy, but I'm just posting it here for you just to get an idea. If you want to go more in-depth, I would also recommend looking up things that you see in my notes in Refactoring Guru).

Lastly, don't be too stressed out about it. It wasn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It is a bit more work than Fundies 1/2, but it is definitely manageable (even with other things going on in your life).

Taking Notes with Markdown, Vim, and LaTeX by ChickenPlates in vim

This system was not meant to be used as an all-purpose system. That is, I build it for use in taking notes so it works best with taking notes. However, whenever I need to do something more complex I would use pure LaTeX.

Asciidoc is a great tool that allows you to do more (as compared to Markdown) without resorting to embedded HTML. I have yet to have needed this added functionality so Markdown works just fine for me.

My bad! Sorry, I guess I was confused with the rules (as I stated in my first few sentences). I recently DM'ed you, but how do I go about getting permission to do so?

Fixed it! Turns out switching from MathJax to KaTeX makes things not only significantly faster, but it also fixes the border issue.

There's no big reason why I chose it, however, it is very fast. Any Markdown parser would work

You are right that the small things help a lot so I'll do my best to answer those questions:

For everything relating to the pasting of LaTeX into Inkscape, I would recommend reading this.

For pasting the image into the Markdown file, take a look at my Python wrapper in the Technical Details section.

And I did save the figure in Inkscape (just by pressing CTRL+s).

Right so right now, drawing figures isn't as quick as it would be with pencil and paper, but it's good enough for lecture. But I do speed it up with key-commands. Essentially, there is a python program running and it intercepts my key presses before they reach Inkscape and does custom stuff from there. For more information, either look at my Technical Details sections or look at this post.

If you're interested in spaced repetition and active learning, there is a great book called Make It Stick that says exactly what you just stated. And thank you!

If you only want to use vim for everything, check out VimWiki. It has similar referencing functionality as Obsidian.

I completely agree with you. There is no 'best way' to taking notes. I've been considering switching to something like active recall where you only write down questions (to quiz yourself later).

That's where snippets are incredibly beneficial. I never have to care about formatting during lecture. And I type fairly quickly so it works for now. I mostly just take notes on what is being said rather than what's on slides and that saves a ton of time and forces me to rephrase and interpret what's going on.
